I am almost 3 weeks out. And it is awful. I see why people come depressed...start drinking or gambling. I have a great support system, but i can honestly say that i regret having surgery. Maybe things will get better...i hope they do. As for now....ugh.  i cant eat meat without feeling sick. I cant drink water without feeling sick. I was even in the hospital last weekend for 5 days to see if something was wrong tha****er was making me sick....nada. i have been told to just drink smaller sips and slow down. Well unless i use an eyedropper and take 1 drop every 5 mins...i dont think i can slow down this was supposed to make my life better....not worse...

Many of us felt the same way. Meat is a hard thing for some of our pouches to get used to. Honestly, I stayed on protein shakes for about 4 weeks because food did not agree with me. At over 5 years out now I can eat anything. Hang in there. This too shall pass!!

I definitely couldn't eat meat at 3 weeks out.  In fact, I had trouble drinking sometimes, too.  I was frustrated because I had always been a gulper.  So it felt like I was never getting enough to drink but it hurt if I tried to drink faster.  I have NO trouble drinking now.  I can eat most meats.  Sometimes I get a little upset  because I have trouble with chicken still.  It makes me get foamies -- but, there's no real rhyme nor reason for that.  I do great on seafood.  Hang in there!  I am SO GLAD I had the surgery, and I suspect you will be too.

I know it sound cliche... but hang in there.  I'm only 2 months out and am just now feeling normal and like I'm able to eat again.  Honestly, I went from happy to regret during the first 6 weeks.  It gets better!!

Hang in there! I felt to some degree like that too. Go back to pureed foods and drink warm water, see if that helps. It will get better...with time

I felt the same way at 3 weeks out.  Meat was difficult for me also.  I couldn't drink water at first--it just didn't taste right.  Have you tried some flavor drops or Crystal Light?  I drink diet Snapple Peach Tea.  I ate ricotta cheese with a little bit of tomato sauce warmed up in the microwave instead of meat.  Drank a lot of protein shakes too.

This too shall pass.  You will feel better.  I feel amazing.

I'm sorry you are physically and emotionally upset.  I'm not allowed meat (beef****il 3 months post op which is pretty much now.  I was able to get in roast chicken and eggs, etc.  As far as drinking I agree you need to sip.  Here at three months I can't chug water like I could at all. I had to adjust how much I swallow at one time.  Eating and drinking are to be done slowly now.

I trust your doctor has given you something for nausea which should allow you to eat.  My first nausea med did'nt work for me so they phoned in Phenergen (sp) for me which was a life saver.  If you can get past this I believe you might not think it was a mistake.  Take care!

I had the worst time getting water down. Always felt so heavy in my pouch.  Used Crystal lite and it worked.  Now 7 weeks out and water goes down much better.  Stay off the meat, it is way too soon to be eating it.  Stay on pureed for another couple of weeks.  Don't push yourself to eat things you shouldn't be eating this early out.  And I have to really work at slowing down my eating.  I have thrown up a couple of times and I know it is because I ate too fast.  I tried steak a month out and my pouch said no way.

Please take your time, it does get better.  Follow your nut and dr food plans explicitly and it will go better.

Well i followed up w my doc today and he said it is too early for meat. To stay on stage 3 but no meat. Wish the docs were on the same page....could hve saved me a world of hurt....literally!
