Due to menopause, I was told by my naturepathic  physician to take 5000 mcg a day. I have done so for a few years and will continue. I do not have a lot of dark facial hair

I take a 5000mcg chewable each day. Haven't noticed facial or darkening hair, but at around 6 months my hair was back to normal. I didn't shed much, but it was a little more than usual between the 4-6 month post op period. I likely won't continue taking biotin once I use up this bottle.

I buy mine at Costco - the brand is Natrol. 5000mcg and good tasting. They just dissolve on my tongue.

If you are hoping to prevent hair loss, you don't need to take ANY biotin.  Hair loss following bariatric surgery is a self-limiting, short term process called tellogen effluvium. Read about it on a medical website. The only reason people seem to see hair regrowth after taking biotin is because the tellogen effluvium process has run its relatively short course and new hair growth has become visible. The people assume there is a cause and effect relationship where none exists---just because you take biotin and then you notice new hair growth does not mean the biotin caused the growth.

Several recent medical studies have shown that biotin has NO effect on this type of hair loss.  The only "professionals" who say that biotin works are those that are selling or manufacturing it.

Take 20 minutes to Google some reliable medical websites where no products are being sold and you'll soon have confirmation.
