Which one is gentle to take? I take Metamucil but not much luck there not going as much as I should. Want to give a laxative a shot.

I used milk of magnesia (at doctors instruction) day three post op. It worked great. First I took half a dose and sipped as much water as I could. That didn't work after 9 hours, so I then took a full dose (2 tablespoons) again with lots of water sipping. After about four hours that did the trick.  Now I take peri-colace (a stool softener ) twice a day to help prevent constipation and to keep everything moving daily.

For the constipation I take milk of magnesium. I do fall sorry some days with water in take. My struggle is finding a good protein. I am only 11dpo so something has got to give.

Hi there, I took two Colace and two Senekot daily for the first month post op (as per my Surgeon's orders) and worked really well.  Now at 5 months post op I eat four "Sunsweet" prunes daily and it works fantastic to keep me regular. I must add that if I am not drinking enough water it doesn't really matter how much prunes or what kind of laxative I take things don't move down there.  For me personally water is key, the more water I drink the better I feel all over, great energy level, great bowel movements and clear urine.  For me water is the "make or break."

Hope you find some relief.

I drink all day all but never seems to be enough because I'm having these problems. What is a person to do ? I'm 3 months out now and I'm doing my best.

Can I have prunes now at 3 months?

I take 2 stool softeners daily, but have found that if I get in a lot of water, it's not a problem at all.  I really think the key is water, which is hard early out.
