Laxative

  • Miralax daily.  1-1.5 capfuls. Every day. Some laxative may cause cramping.   Keep some Vaseline and rubber gloves handy when things start moving.  First BM after a few days constipation can be painful and difficult.

Sorry you having such a hard time.  Metamucil is not a laxative per se, only a fiber supplement.  It is better at preventing constipation rather than relieving it.  A stimulant laxative, like Senokot, Miralax, Dulcolax may be helpful along with drinking tons of water as it looks like you are.  There are also suppositories like glycerine.  Everyone responds to laxatives differently, so you may have to try a couple of them.  Your pharmacist may be able to help too.

Started out using benefiber, but that did not work. Now I use a capful of Miralax a day in my moring water and that's all I need.

I had a very bad issue and let it go on to long, was very painful and caused myself problems. Do not wait too long to get things moving and of course always check with your Doctor!

Whishing you luck!!!

Everybody has something that works for them.

Some things I discovered:

1) if I miss even ONE dose of my concoction, I'm screwed.

2) it's rarely (although sometimes), one thing.  I have a ****tail.

3) it's trial and error to get it right for your body.

I take a colace and 500mg of magnesium in the morning and at night.  I am regular most of the time.  If things feel a little out of whack I do NOT wait (search my posts for diverticulitis - NOT what you want and mine resulted from two months of constipation after surgery).  I take a healthy dose of liquid MOM for insurance - gets me back on track.

Good luck and try things.  (Oh, and MOM is just liquid magnesium - it's WAY cheaper to either buy the generic pills, or even generic MOM - same thing but cheaper.  Costco sells a ginormous one)

I also get it through Amazon - here's a link to the giant size generic.  Works exactly the same.

I take the generic Milk of Magnesia from Walgreens daily and make sure I follow it with an entire bottle of water for best results. If I miss a day I may go fine that day but I'm screwed in a day or two when nothing will move til I take 3 x the dose. I tried miralax but it doesn't work for me. You'll just have to find which works for you.

I have been using a daily combo of Miralax, colace and mag oxide for over 2.5 years. All are safe to use daily. I drink about 80 oz fluids daily.  Be careful of excessive use of 'stimulant' laxatives (read labels) as they can cause dependence and a permanent change in bowel function. Also fiber laxatives, such as Metamucil and Fibercon have to be taken 2 hrs before or after medications. It can cause your medication not to be absorbed.
