What's on the menu today, RNYers?
Anny, if you decide to try Chia seeds I highly recommend just buying a bag of them (that's the most economical way) and adding a tbsp to your greek yogurt (although you can add them to almost anything, they don't have much flavor, they just add bulk and nutrients) I know people who add them to their protein shakes. I really noticed I started feeling better when I started adding more veggies and "health" foods...although that could all be in my mind as well, b/c it's not like I eat a whole bunch of anything, so who knows? I still focus on protein first, but then try hard to make these nutritionally dense foods my second choice :)
Anny (and others), I'd like to hear your opinions about drinking before meals. I have ALWAYS drank right up until I eat. My surgeon's office didn't really mention not drinking right before you eat, just not for 30 minutes after (or especially during a meal). If you look at it from an anatomical standpoint, what reason would there be NOT to drink right up until you eat? Your fluids get flushed out of your pouch immediately, so there would be no reason. I definitely see the reasoning behind not drinking during meals or at least 30 minutes (I often try to wait 45 if I can) because you definitely feel full longer and food doesn't get flushed immediately out of your pouch. A lot of the vets have posted on here about how there is no reason to wait before eating also. My surgeon's office is very lax in their post-surgery care, so I don't count on them at all for an information. I haven't seen a nutritionist since before I had surgery. I seriously learn pretty much everything on this site. I started at 256 and am at 121 now, so what I'm doing has worked for me so far. I think staying active on this site helps me stay accountable also.
Honestly I'm not quite sure what the reasoning of not eating before eating is either. As you said, from an anatomical standpoint it doesn't quite make sense.
I also don't really trust the NUT at my program right now - there are two and the one I like and trust is on maternity leave, which is a bummer. I think she would actually take time to explain things to me, but the one who is one now tends to give most questions the brush off. I'm not sure if she's used to patients not having questions or not understanding what's she's saying, but most often when I talk to her I want to scream, "I'm a grown woman! I am as smart as you! I went to college!" because she's talking like I'm about 12.
Ok, I'm off my rant now. If I do every get anything of value from my program on the subject I'll be happy to share!

Judging by some of the posts here, I think that NUTs may get into the habit of talking to people like they're 12 because some people need to be talked to that way, unfortunately. I'm sure it isn't you, it's just what she's used to, Anny.
BTW, good to see you!
About the drinking, I read a lot of vets here saying that they don't wait after drinking to eat, and the reasoning behind that. It made perfect, logical sense to me, so I no longer wait after drinking, and it's worked out fine for me so far. At restaurants, I'll ge****er and drink it right up until any food arrives, and that helps distract me from all the yummy food I could have ordered but didn't. And I think it helps me be not so hungry when I do sit down to a meal if I've had a big glass of water just beforehand. So that's my take on it!

I think I'm going to try it too! As we've talked about before, ultimately we need to do what we feel is best after gathering the facts and this just seems to make sense. I think your point about it helping keep your hungry at bay is a really important piece.
PS. So glad you're up to posting!

Hi Everyone,
I haven't checked in for a qhile and I have missed everyone's menus! So, here I am... :-)
There was a facebook add for Gwynnie Bee in my news feed the other day and I thought of you Emily. I have now shrunk out of my $6 clearance JCPenny pants I bought a couple months ago. I still have a few things from a recent clearance shopping trip that still fit. My husband and I are taking the kids (7 & 10) on their first family vacation in July. We are going to Universal in Orlando for 2 days and then we are going on a Disney cruise for a week. I am so excited, but I need to buy some new clothes. I really need a new bathing suit, but I hate to spend the money and then have it not fit in 2 months. Land's End is having a sale this weekend with 25% of the entire order. I think I will order a few suits ina few sizes and see what works and then return the others.
I was stalled in losing, well not quite stalled, but practically stalled. I am 4.5 months out and I finally seem to be losing again. During the stall, I actually gained 2 lbs. i know it was jus****er or my body doing something funky so I did not stress too much, but it sure was nice to see that 2 lbs gone.
B: Premier Protein drink
S: Isopure Protein drink
L: 2 oz grilled chicken breast, spinach, grape tomatos, tiny bit of garlic olive oil & balsalmic vinegar
S: low fat cheese stick and small apple (if I am hungry)
D: not sure yet, but probably a shrimp pouch with artichoke hearts, klamata olives & grape tomatos
V: taking the first batch right now!
W: on track so far, I have 32 oz done
E: I usually walk at lunch but it is going to be over 100 degrees. I walked yesterday at lunch (about 95+) and I just about died, so I won't be walking today. I have kid duty tonight since hubby has to go to a work dinner, so there will be no time for Curves today. I think I may walk up and down the stairs in the office at lunch for 30 minutes or so.
Sandra
Hi Sandra! Glad you came back :) Shrimp pouch...I am intrigued...do you put all of those things in foil and bake it? Sounds delicious. Now I want to make shrimp in a pouch with lemon and garlic and capers!
Hilarious that you thought of me when you saw the GB ad! I swear, they do not pay me to be a spokesperson. I just love having options and not having to buy a new wardrobe every month.
I am glad your stall is over! This month has been much slower for me than the first four. I will have my five month surgiversary weight tomorrow.
Sorry you are already in 100 degrees in May! EEEK! What does that mean for July and August?! LOL
Definitely I would say buy some new clothes for the cruise! I feel so much better when I wear clothes that FIT. And I was just at Target and they have SUPER cute clothes and bathing suits right now. Affordable too. Maxi dresses, tank tops etc. Everything is $10-$22. Maybe that's a good short-term option :)
Enjoy your evening, despite having to miss Curves. See you on here tomorrow, hopefully! Em
Damn! I just signed up for GB and got the free month long trial, but didn't realize if I had you refer me, Emily, that you would get an extra garmet for the month - sorry!
I totally put the top you're wearing in my closest - it is JUST. SO. CUTE.
Wish they had pants other than jeans though Wonder why they don't.
What's the turn around time like, by the by?

OMG no worries at all - I am happy when people get into super cute clothes that fit them - an extra garment is a nice bonus but not a big deal at all :) Glad you signed up!
Their shipping times are by no means Amazon Prime speed, but they are ok. I usually get a box, send 1 or 2 things back, and the new items come relatively quickly if you go online and report that you are mailing them back (they ready your next shipment while the items are in transit). I also make sure to read the reviews below each item. If everyone says "this runs small" I may choose one size larger.
I hope you enjoy it! And I don't know about the jeans...I am not a huge dress wearer (yet) either so I just have five shirts checked out at all times :)
I like Gwynnie Bee, but it has been so hit or miss for me! I think it's because by the time a garment arrives to me, it's already too big! So far I've only tried out dresses and I think I've found one that I'll keep for my voice recital on the 31st. Hopefully it'll still fit then ;)
