Weight loss?
Thanks.. I just can't help but feel like I was doing something WRONG.. that I wasn't down 30-35 # after the first month. I am going to amp up my workouts next to see if I can kick it up a notch. I just want the weight OFF... But I do appreciate all the encouragment and support.. That is why I am here!!
It takes some time, that is all. contrary to what shows like The Biggest Loser tell you, extreme workouts are really not a great way to lose weight. so I wouldn't kick up your workouts TOO much. Did you know that when they tested the metabolism of contestants from the show they were burning an average of 504 calories less by the end of the show above and beyond the amount they were expected to decrease because of their weight loss? That is insane. I am very very active. I was hiking at 10 weeks out. I was active before surgery and am even more active now. But I don't think it has really contributed to my weight loss all that much. I think it keeps me toned and keeps my metabolism in good shape. Which is awesome, workout for sure! But if you don't love it, if you don't think you will continue to work out in the same way forever then I think it just sets you up. The weight will come off. Just stay with your plan.
20 pounds in a month is really good! That's what most people I know have averaged. Since I was considered a 'smaller' patient on my surgery date, I only lost about 12 pounds in the first month, but I lost lots and lots of inches, so I was pretty happy about that. You're doing great; don't compare your weight loss to others because it will just drive you crazy. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration regarding rate of weight loss such as beginning weight, protein/liquid intake, caloric intake, activity level, etc.
Keep this one thought in mind - you didn't put the weight on overnight, nor will it come off overnight. You're doing fantastic, so just be proud of yourself and keep plugging away.
Who, specifically, do you know that lost 30 lbs in the first month? 20 lbs seems much more typical to me.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I lost exactly 20 pounds my first month. I am below goal now... it's not a race. You can get the weight off -- you ARE getting the weight off, don't worry about how fast it comes off.
I had surgery on 4/28 and I've lost about 15 pounds so far since surgery (or about 5 pounds per week)... and I feel like a rock star! Don't let unrealistic expectations make you feel bad about the excellent progress you are making!
I had my surgery 3/24 and have only lost about 25 lbs. I have been walking everyday for about 3 weeks now. My friend who had hers 5 weeks before me has lost 50 lbs, which kinda frustrates me. But my mom told me, I had lost 40 lbs before surgery, where she didn't. I just keep hoping I will continue to lose more. My fear is I won't lose any more weight.
See.. you feel the SAME way I DO!! I got a somewhat rude response, asking me "WHO do I know SPECIFICALLY" that lost over 30 # in the first month. I work with 4 nurses that have had this surgery, RNY... and YES, both the nurses whom did it last year, were down about 30 #.. but the 2nd nurse, was out for "6 weeks". SO I guess, It is TOO Bad.. But like YOU.. I am afraid what if it STOPS.. what If I am ONE of THOSE that fail at this!!!! I appreciate your understanding SO much!! THANK YOU
