Food plan--I wasn't given a plan per se so am curious what these look like for others

It seems everyone always talks about plans and sticking to a plan. I wasn't given any plan. I have stages (as does everyone) and then acceptable foods during each stage except solid foods. There is no list for solid foods which I begin next week. I was given a protein goal, and a sugar and carb max. We were taught to read labels and eat nothing with over 2g of sugar with sugar listed as the first 5 ingredients. I was also told to eat protein first, then veg then (once able) starch. There are also rules: 5-6 meals per day, no drinking 5 before and 30 after, 2 multivitamins a day, chew a lot, drink 64 ozs per day, no straws, no carbonation, no alcohol, etc. Is this what folks mean by a plan, if not, I am just curious what a plan would look like. I had my surgery at Barix Clinic in MI. I will be traking food using Livestrong My Plate.

Hi Heather,

Yes, that is what we mean by plan.  Most centers don't give much in terms of an actual food plan, I guess a guideline would be a more appropriate descriptor.  For what it's worth, your "plan" looks very similar to mine.

That is a plan.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I would ask them each to explain why they recommend what they do and then decide which makes the most sense to you.

Yep, that's your plan.  Try getting on My Fittness Pal and entering your foods there.  It breaks down most foods into protein, carbs, fat, sugar, ect.  It makes it pretty easy to keep track.  Check it out.
