Rockin Refuel for RNY

An OH friend encouraged me to try Rockin Refuel. I tried the strawberry flavor yesterday and it tasted like paint to me. This morning I tasted the chocolate and I love it. I am always concerned about the sugar content though. I do not want to experience dumping if I can help it.

The chocolate has 20 grams of protein, 300 calories, and 44 grams of sugar. Is this sugar going to affect me? The calorie content kind of had me saying hmmm.

I am only 5 days out. I thought I was stocked on protein powders but quickly grew tired of what I had. What are the best protein powder/liquid suggestions you have for an RNY patient?

Thank you for all your help. The people on OH are so very informative. I really appreciate it.

Those ratios, I would not be okay with. Way, way too much sugar, I try to stay under 3 g, and that is not nearly enough protein for all of those calories. I am thinking that if you did not dump on 44 grams of sugar that you are not a dumper, but I could be wrong.

I drink Premier Protein, Chocolate.

Thank you! I took a sip, looked at the content, and came right here for advice. Better safe than sorry.

I will check out Premier Protein.

Thank you!

I do like the Premier Protein. It is a good thing you asked about the other shake. This website I have learned so much information off of it.

That is much more sugar than I ever get in a whole day. I wouldn't use it. It's also low in protein for the calories IMO.

I like the Isopure RTD line (40 grams protein, 160 calories in 20 ounces, YMMV on taste but I enjoyed the Alpine Punch flavor) and Jay Robb Vanilla (1 scoop equals 25 grams of protein and 110 calories, sweetened with stevia and VERY tasty.) I haven't found a chocolate I like yet, I'd love a nice rich, dark chocolate flavored shake but so far none have appealed.

I went to mybariatricpantry.com and picked up some Syntrax Nectar and Metabolic Nutrition ProtiZyme sample packs.  Yea I could drink the peanut butter cookie from both packs all day long and their chocolate ones were pretty darn good also.

I'll echo the others with the too much sugar thoughts. But I will add a fairly good rule of thumb that I use for determining if I consider something a legtimate source of protein. (someone here taught it to me in my early days) I like to have 1 gram of protein for every 10 calories. It's not carved in stone for me but it's close.

Skim milk. You get 90 calories and have 8 grams of protein per cup. I start each day with 2 cups of milk. I don't do protein shakes.

Skimmilk is carbs then protein. 2 cups of skim milk has 24gr of sugar and 16 gr of proteins.  We need fat in the diet.
