Heat being Exhausting

I am almost 4 weeks post op. I was out in the heat (97 degrees) today for less than two hrs. I am so utterly exhausted.  I am drinking plenty of fluids.  I am supposed to go to the lake with family at the end of July and am worried because of how I am handling the heat. Is anyone else going through this and are there any tricks to help it?  I will be at the lake for 6 days without any A/C.   Thanks.

Sorry, no tricks. Most everyone gets tired really easy for a few months after surgery, and the heat will just make it worse.

I don't know how well you stay hydrated, but be certain to drink plenty. In the heat, you might need 100 or 120 ounces in a day. Lots extra can only help.

Why take the chance the heat may compromise your healing process? Dehydration is serious stuff.  I think the best trick to help:  omit the words "suppose to go to the lake" and change it to "not willing to go to the lake."

Double or triple up your water intake. I went to the mountains for a program in New Mexico - high desert when I was about 6 or 8 months out - the minimum was 187 ozs of water a day for the hiking program. I never thought I'd be able to do it but I did and felt so much better. We lose water fast, moreso when we're out in the heat. Up the water intake and add a little Gatorade to keep electrolytes in balance. At 4 weeks out you're still pretty new. Come in for cooling off breaks and more water. Not ice water, room temp water. Get in as much as you can. When you go to the lake , take more breaks, sit under an umbrella and relax -not so much exerting in the full sun.

Not only we need liquids but also salt and minerals. At 6 years out - if I don't add salts to my food - I can get dehydrated very fast - feeling super tired, muscles twitching, and Lowe blood pressure (getting lightheaded when I get up from sitting position) nows I add salt (sea salt) to my drinks.  Yes - even protein shakes.  Add extra salt to the small portion of food I eat.  Even will drink natural pickle juice, (bubbies brand) or have a nice glass of spicy chicken broth.

Good luck.
