Numbers without Units and Labels are Worthless....

Okay I am getting on my soap box. If you are going to give a number regardless of what the number is you have to give it a unit and a label. If I offered you 20 watch my dog for an hour would you do it? Most would assume I am offering 20 dollars. But that is not what I have said. So when you watch my dog for an hour and I give you 20 peanuts then you had better not complain. I offered 20 and gave you 20.

If you are going to give a number give it a unit of measure 80 grams, 10 lbs. etc. Also you need to give it a label. The number 80 grams is good but 80 grams of what? This is the label. SO lets see no more naked numbers on the forums.....for the love of science.... please give your numbers units and labels!

This was the point of two of my posts yesterday - although I'm sure there will always be people who are happy to take their advice from their favourite people rather than those who give good science based information    Unfortunately, OH is often a popularity contest ...

When my doctor told me my iron was 8.7 she gave no unit of measure, she said it needed to be atleast 10 in two weeks and she would like it up to 12.  Honestly do I care about the until label after that number, nope, no clue what it means anyway just that my iron is low andI need to increase it. Even had some beef jerky yesterday while watching Hercules in Imax 3D to help my iron count.  So happy the consessions are finally adding something instead of candy and popcorn.  So do unit numbers really matter, not when they come from your real doctor and not one of the so-called doctors here.

Of course they matter. Very often, one lab will use a different unit than another, and if you ignore the units you will be comparing apples and oranges. Doctors aren't perfect, and have overlooked results from a hospital lab that measures in units they aren't used to. Results they think are fine are NOT.

It's not the doctor's health at stake, it's your health, and you can ignore it if you want to. I never will.
