Birthday cake?
I started to read the replies to your post but am very tired tonight so just wanted to add this before I go to bed. (I will read them tomorrow though.)
My surgery was over 10 yrs ago and if I have ice-cream I will get sick, still. It's not just the added sugar, it's the milk too, it has natural sugar. Non fat milk has more than sugar whole milk. If I do decide to have a very small amount of it, I make sure I eat a meal first.
Best of luck!
thank you! It's really great for me to read other's experiences with sugar. I don't know anyone who has had this surgery and this is my only means of bouncing ideas around!
Is it possible that the band didn't work because you didn't committ to a change to eat healthy? This is what WLS is about. It is to help you change your bad habits. If you are worried about cake and ice cream then you might not be ready for WLS. As for me, I can eat all the junk but it tastes terrible. I don't miss it but i also conditioned my brain to change my dependency on rich, fatty foods.
I am just over 2 months out, and today is my birthday. And I did NOT have cake. I didn't even entertain the idea or miss the idea of having cake.
I said goodbye to all those foods when I signed on to have this life saving surgery. I also figured I had had 47 years of eating what I wanted, and look where it got me. So for me, I don't really need, miss or even plan on eating cake or ice cream for a very very long time, if even then.
I wont die without having it...but I could very well if I did...(its a path I do not plan on going down..)

Just wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! Thats a good way of looking at it! thanks
I had a major addiction to cake, pie, cookies, muffins, etc. Gave them up prior to surgery and have gotten to where I don't want them. Eating sugary treats does lead to craving more at least for me. Have gone to several birthday parties and found no one cared if I had cake or not. No one forcing it into my stomach so the choice is entirely mine. I would advise caution especially at an early stage. A little indulgence can lead to major cravings and lead down the wrong path. We endured surgery to be successful so you don't want to do anything to put it in jeopardy. Compliance and success go hand in hand.
I agree with you. I definitely wouldnt even want to go near that type of thing for a long time. I was kinda wondering about down the road and just on a rare occasion, maybe once a year or so IF I even wanted to. I was just being curious. I am really glad to hear your experience about going to parties. I was wondering how people would react cause I say no thanks. I plan to be very compliant with all my doctors advice. I will be glad to not even WANT them anymore!
hello:
In the beginning I strongly suggest that you go no where near sweet things. You will get sick. And I mean, you will regret eating it.
I am 13 yrs out this past May and when I and many others went through wls we had no idea what to expect.
We are the "lab rats" so to speak.
It's all trial and error.
Much love
