Thanks for the replies everyone.  One of the things I'm really looking forward to doing again after losing this weight is backpacking.  It's pretty standard to drink as much as possible before hiking, so you don't have to carry as much water.  I may not be able to do that anymore, but I won't be carrying the extra 100+ lbs on my body, so I think I'll be able to handle some extra water.

I drink quite a large gulp something I was worried about pre-op too... funny. I was weirded out by the sipping thing... it's something that you are very aware of in the first few weeks... then generally you stop thinking sooo much about it... it just becomes how you drink. Believe me if you take too big of a sip you will feel it ouch so you learn your limits and trust me its less of an issue as you get further and further out.

Yes I have a medic alert bracelet... here's mine http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2011/11/laure ns-hope-ho-ho-holiday-giveaway.html it's pretty I have a couple of others too. I wear them sometimes, mostly they are in my purse just in case.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery!
