Surgery approved

So I just got a letter from Aetna saying my surgery is approved 😊

The issue I have is that it says for April 2, 2015!! I don't wanna wait that long. Idk who determined this date so I emailed my surgeon to ask him what's up. 

Yay! and nay! Ugh.... Sounds like whoever filled it out added 6 months to the date... A lot of insurances have that 6 month supervised diet but that is usually before you even get submitted, maybe there is some confusion. If you google Aetna Policy on Obesity Surgery their document says this:

3. Nutrition and exercise program(s) must be for a cumulative total of 6 months (180 days) or longer in duration and occur within 2 years prior to surgery, with participation in one program of at least 3 consecutive months.  (Precertification may be made prior to completion of nutrition and exercise program as long as a cumulative of 6 months participation in nutrition and exercise program(s) will be completed prior to the date of surgery.)

 Did they document any programs prior to submitting? My Doc's office was able to use some of my weights and visits to them as part of my 6 months...Good Luck, hopefully they get it straightened out sooner.

He checked before he even did the endoscopy and since this will be a revision and not the initial surgery, I don't have to do the supervised diet and all that. When I did the vsg I had to do the 90 day diet. So hopefully I can get it moved up. I'm anxious to figure this out! He read the revision requirements in front of me in the office so I shouldn't have to do any of that stuff. 

Don't fret.  I'm sure that is just a date range for the Dr. to be able to do your revision and any follow ups.  I have Aetna and they approved my surgery for October 8th but it's not until October 15th.  I asked the surgery team about it and they said that it is just a standard letter.

Thank you both! My surgeon emailed me back this morning saying not to worry and that the date is just an expiration date and that I will be scheduled soon.

Wow I can't imagine what that feels like! I'm having gastric bypass which is my first WLS on November 21st and it feels like each day just drags by and I want my surgery to be tomorrow! Thanks! Turns out that was only an expiration date. Not sure why they don't actually SAY that! Lol so my surgery is scheduled for October 27. So 9 days away! Nervous but excited too. I will send you a friend request. Would love to have someone to message and stay on track with! Good luck to you too!
