How would one know
if they had "sprung" a leak? I had a weird and sudden sharp pain in my front left side yesterday. It wasn't horrible, but severe enough that I barked out an "AAUGH!" Would probably not think anything of it, but in my silly head it felt like it would if I suddenly sprung a leak. I'm really not in any pain today, but every once in a while I'll get a little freaked out and therefore "aware" of that side.
Leaks cause INTENSE constant abdominal (and sometimes chest) pain, elevated (and sometimes erratic) heart rate, nausea, and fever.
Leaks are actually pretty rare, and are most common in the first 48-72 hours after surgery.
It is extremely common to have all sorts of weird sensations and random pains as your body heals. Don't let it freak you out. If you develop a leak, you will feel HORRIBLE and will know without a doubt that something is quite wrong.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
You won't just spring a leak.
And if you did have a leak, which is very rare more than a few days post op, you would be very sick and have a high fever. If you developed a leak yesterday, by tonight you would be extremely ill, would have ended up in the ER by now, if you were still alive. You can't just walk around with a leak and not be aware of it.

Trust me you did not spring a leak. I am one of the rare people who had a leak within 24 hours of my surgery. It felt like acid was being poured over my insides. Then I ended up with a second surgery and 3 days in ICU. So hopefully the pain resolves and as always if you have concerns call your surgeon
