Yes.  It's a common symptom of an eating disorder.

I did this.  I did it to quiet the need to eat while I was on liquids.  I would take a piece of juicy steak, chew it and then remove it.  Is it ideal?  No.  Is it healthy?  I didn't eat, it helped me get past the 3 week liquids diet, and it kept me from doing stupid.  I think it is not unhealthy.

Only sick people,  as it is classified as an eating disorder.   I couldn't imagine doing something so disgusting on a regular basis and definitely wouldn't be boasting about it in public!!!

Back in the 1970's it was taught at Weigh****chers - at least the one that I attended.  Another technique was putting Comet Cleanser on a doughnut or cookie and scrubbing it well before eating.

I think that it is okay to chew and release and do not feel it is a disease. Those of us who will admit have done this.

Really? Aside from it being a disgusting act, it is also a commonly recognized sign of an eating disorder. In fact, it's listed in the DSM (Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) under Eating Disorders - not specified. This would certainly suggest to me that is it not okay.

Edited to add: Sorry, forgot to mention this in my reply to you. I noticed on another thread that despite being "regular" in the washroom, you are taking a laxative every weekend to "clean out". I sincerely hope you might be spurred to do some reading on eating disorders - the chew/spit behaviour and the laxative behaviour are not in any way healthy for body or mind.

It was also a story line in one of the SATC movies or episodes. They go to LA and Miranda meets a formerly chubby Ex-bf that is now skinny using that technique...

I did it a few times during my first month post-surgery, when I was still on a liquid diet. I was preparing meals for my family and almost crying because I wanted to chew so badly. So, I chewed and spit it out. I haven't done it since, nor felt the urge to do so. At almost 3 years out, I don't put food in my mouth without intending to eat it. I don't recommend it because you can easily swallow food that you shouldn't.
