I am 3 wks out from RNY, and still having pain on left side near my belly button. There are still bruises, but it is a sharp pain when I stand from sitting, or bend over. Is this normal?

Sharp pains are NOT normal. Call your surgeon.

I too have left side pain and am 4 wks post op.  Mine is up close to my rib cage and just left of my belly button.  I just thought the belly button pain had something to do with a hernia I had repaired 2 years ago right in that spot but now I'm not sure.

it's not uncommon to have more pain on the left side of the abdominal area due to the camera which is inserted there.  If you are really worried, call your surgeon's office.

Thank you , I think it must have been a very big camera! lol, I want to think it is just muscles healing, or maybe nerves.I was able to roll over a couple of days ago, but now it is too sore.

I had a lot of pain on my left side for about 6 weeks from a large internal bruise on my abdominal muscle. When they put the tools in that site and moved them around, it caused a lot of bleeding into my muscles and it takes a long time for the blood to reabsorb. That being said, my pain was pretty constant and my surgeon was well aware of the pain I was experiencing.

Have you given your surgeon's nurse a call? Are you having regular bowel movements? Is the pain near one of the lap sites?

I would give the surgeon a call and at the least discuss it with his/her nurse; they'll advise you if you need to come in or what to do.

Hope you feel better soon.

I havent called yet, and yes it is the place they put the camera in, and then some around the incision close to the belly button. They both have a pretty deep  bruise, still healing. I wasnt sure about the muscles, but that is kinda what it feels like. No problem with bowel movement. Everything is perfect otherwise. Just glad to know others hurt longer than 3 weeks or so. Thanks so much!

No problem! Yeah, my pain went on and on, or so it seemed at the time. I was on pain meds for 6-8 weeks because of it; my surgeon described it as "excruciating" and he was correct. ;) He recommended using a heating pad to help the blood to absorb, but that was in my situation.

It might be some of the internal stitches pulling, especially if it when you are bending and moving around...those were pulling on me for awhile, too.

Thank you soooo much. It helps to hear all that. , and since I have been trying to not bend, and do as much, it seems to be better.
