My surgery is on Tuesday (1/6). I'm not nervous about the surgery but I am nervous about the healing. Due to severe neck pain, I have been sleeping in a recliner for the past 7 months. To get out of the chair, I have to bend my abdomen. I'm worried about popping a staple. I'm sure they are good and sturdy, but for some reason this is my fear.

You will be fine..a lot of post ops prefer to sleep in a recliner. It's easier than getting in and out of bed.

Bending at the abdomen is fine, but I did kinda have to roll out of bed or off the couch for the first week or 2. Flexing the stomach muscles hurt for a bit. The best for me was when my husband would put out his arm and I would pull myself up by holding his arm. No stomach muscles needed.

You will be fine. I didn't have staples, just steri-strips. I didn't sleep in a recliner, but hung out in one for a day or two... Take it slow...

To help, be sure to request wearing a abdomen band both in the hospital and at home for a few weeks post-op. This velcro wrap might prevent things like popping staples and/or hernias and should put your fears and worries at ease.
