I don't know if you will follow the plan or not.  If you're not sure, I suggest working with a therapist to figure out what might make it difficult for you to stick to your plan and to find solutions.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

My husband and I have been a heated discussion this morning. I just don't know if I can trust myself to follow "the plan". I know what a big part food has played in my life (our life). I'm not stupid. This is a tool - NOT a solution! I have to work it and it has got to be a new lifestyle. We are still waiting for approval from our insurance. But, until then, I have so many questions, concerns, I'm sure a lot of misconceptions of this whole thing. I want my life back. But, will I TAKE my life back when it comes time to step up and work the plan! I terrified of the thought of this becoming just another "failure" I can add to my list. I know that's not healthy. But, right now I'm asking all the questions. Please share your post op struggles with me. I need to know right now that this is a normal part of preparing for the new life ahead for me.

it is hard, but you have to want the new life you envision for yourself, more than you want to keep what you hadin the Past, food.

as far as your husband and his cooking goes, he can still cook for others and get his warm fuzziness, simply by changing his recipes and working on finding dishes that tast good and are more healthy for everyone.

you know,it is entirely possible, that the people he is trying to "comfort" with his cooking are secretly thinking" why does he keep on making is all this food we don't really need or want". Just because it comforts him to prepare it,c

doesnt mean others are comforted by it,know what I mean?

Having Wls doesn't mean the end of living a good life, itmeans the beginning of a better, more healthy, new life.

I'm only 2 years post op, but I can tell you from my experience that food takes on a completely different role and I think you and your husband will be able to embrace it.  It becomes even more special and important, because you can only eat such a small amount, you want what you DO eat to be "worth it."  You no longer eat volumes and can just eat whatever/whenever/wherever.  You have to plan and be creative and meticulous with your menu planning, shopping and cooking.  I cook and enjoy my food WAY more than before surgery because I don't just grab fast food or pick something because I can eat a large quantity of it.  I don't think you really will understand what I'm saying until you are on the other side, but this is my perspective.   Does anyone else out there feel the same??
