I need advice as soon as possible please. VERY nervous about doing a revision but also do not want to regain. I have not been eating any crazy amounts, but see that I have increased..still short of 'normal' amounts, but more than I have. I am about to schedule a revision for this weekend, but for some reason feel very nervous, which I did not feel before. Any advice? Anyone go from sleeve to gastic bypass? Can you offer advice. Was it harder the second time around? I am reading there are more risks with revisions. Thanks in advance.

Hey Sandy, I just did my vsg to rny on Jan 26th.  Absolutely no complications.  Was drinking all my fluids within days of surgery.  Losing very slow, but assured that is normal.  I'd do it again tomorrow if I could/had to.

Thank you SO MUCH for answering so quickly! I don't know why I'm so nervous. When I did the VSG, I acted like I was going shopping. I had no issues, I was 100% sure...and now I'm a bit afraid.

Can I ask why you had the revision (I'm doing it because I only lost 60, and have regained 20)?

Thanks for this, it's giving me some courage!!! Good luck on your journey.

I can't answer as I'm not a revision post-op, but I'm curious why you need a revision. What medical reason has your surgeon given you? You need to add more info than what you've given here.  How far out are you? What was your surgey weight?  Current weight? What complications may have spurred the need for a revision?

You could also post this on the revision board if you haven't.

Do you weigh and/or measure your portions? We tend to fool ourselves into thinking we are eating less than we are.

Please take responsibility for the amount you're eating. If you do not do this, a revision will not help you, either.

No, I don't....I do eyeball it and it's the same as I have always been eating (once I could eat solids). I've done more lately, cutting out anything I've been eating 'bad' though I normally didn't eat sweets or bread (and I never drank soda since I'm not a fan)...my greatest/favorite snack is ice, that I could eat for days. I'm concerned because nothing has changed for me, except that I have thrown out the bit of bad that I do eat withthe exception of sometimes...I eat healthy 75%, and 25% I'll include milk or cheeses (which I classify as unhealthy or off of my norm of what is healthy...that is proteins and veggies).

Thanks for the information. I always ate what I wanted, just very small portions. For some reasons, this is not working anymore. I am not 100% eating only healthy, but I'd say 80% healthy. I do graze, but carrot sticks, celery. I'm not a big fan of chips, cookies, etc. If I eat savory, I like "real" food. I haven't changed my diet, but am slowly gaining and that is what is concerning me. Thanks again for the response.

I do not know one person who has successfully maintained by eating what they want but in smaller portions. I suspect your calories have crept up, thus the gain; it is impossible to know without you measuring and logging everything, though.

Most of us did not have a good grasp on what we were actually eating before surgery. Most of us ate more than we thought we did. Everything single thing adds up. It is easy to have food blinders on.

Before you consider a revision, you should log everything for a period of time to see what your consumption actually is. Then you can cut out what you are over consuming. If you do that, and do it with brutal honesty, and still don't have a loss, then you might want to talk to a surgeon about a revision.

I had no choice; I was deployed overseas and was not able to control the food as none was available to buy and make yourself, you ate what was in the mess hall and that is why I ate the best that I could but sometimes the choices were just not there, so I ate very little.

Why wouldn't you revise to a DS?  Plenty of people need to convert their VSG to a full DS because they need the malabsorption.  It sounds like you should really do more research before you"schedule" a revision this weekend.  As a very happy revision patient myself I understand that sometimes we need a more aggressive and effective WLS.  Good luck - I think you really need to study your options and the reasons why you are gaining before plowing ahead without doing the due diligence necessary for success.
