Sorry to say but sounds like your surgeon is acting like an ass.  I know most surgeons wont touch patients who already had a surgeon perform the surgery, but I'm wondering if you can go see someone else or is there someone in your surgeons doctor you can speak to. He seems like he is very hard headed and is truly not listening to you or caring about your needs. If your p[ouch seems large to your gastro that has to mean something.

A fully grown pouch is between eight and twelve ounces.  How big did they tell you yours is?

Compared to a stomach that was about 30 ounces, the pouch size should not matter.  Rapid weight loss ends about six months for most of us.   Are you tracking your food, counting calories and keeping carbs very low?

You need to find another doctor.  One time him calling me a liar would been enough for me.  I'm 6 1/2 years out and my meals are small and I'm feeling full.

You're clearly upset and I'm sorry for that.  I don't think there's any point trying to tease apart what exactly was said by whom, whether there was a misunderstanding, or anything like that.  At this point you probably need a new doctor regardless of who is "right."

However, clearly the bottom line is you're eating too much of the wrong kinds of food.  Is it possible you have a bigger pouch than average?  Of course.  Is it "too big" to the point you need a revision?  That's honestly pretty unlikely.  Have you stalled because you're eating too much broccoli and tilapia?  That's also pretty unlikely.

So my advice to you is to take a very critical look at your food choices and journal if necessary.  If you truly need to eat a little extra to feel full and satisfied then put an extra half cup of vegetables on your plate.  That's not going to sabotage you, I promise.

Best wishes.

Hi!  Fitzer is my surgeon too!

I only saw him pre-op and the day of the operation.

He has a nutritionist, Jessica Sargood, on staff.  She is very good. I keep in touch with her a lot via email.  Perhaps you might have better luck with her?  Personally, I rely on her the MOST out of everyone in the practice.  Fitzer sliced and diced me but Jenny (his PA) and Jessica (the nutritionist) are like my foundation.

Now-this is me speaking off the top of my head, but I remember from the green sheet I got from Meghan (the other nutritionist that moved away), that we eventually are to work up to a cup of food at about the year mark.  I am not sure when 2/3 cup of food gets integrated into this overall scheme.

I really dislike doctors that "blame the patient."  I believe you when you say your aren't eating ice cream. Even with the surgery, I have PCOS and if I get into too many carbs (it doesnt matter if they are simple or complex) I can GAIN weight and/or stall the weight loss.  I have done this experiment on myself several times.

Also, stomas and pouches DO stretch.  If they didn't, then why was ROSE and other types of revision invented?

I would try to get away from ALL carbs (i.e. bread, grains, granola, potatoes) and nondense/mushy foods (i.e. navy beans/chick peas) and eat only 1/4 cup dense protein and 1/4 cup nonstarchy veg (e.g. spinach). for a couple of weeks and see if the hunger issue resolves. You might be getting hungry all the time from your blood sugar spiking from carbs.

Do you go to support group?  I am thinking about it.  If you do go, maybe I will see you there sometime.

Also- are you exercising?  Intense exercise (e.g. figure skating for 2 hours = 1,290 cal burn; Jogging 8 miles =1,264 calories burned) and weight lifting seemed to really help get those last 20 lbs off.  Even when I didnt lose weight, I was losing inches. One month I didnt lose a single pound but i lost 2 inches off my hips. Really!

I am terrible about exercising. Every time I start getting into it, something happens. For example, got the flu, broke my toe, etc. Finally reasonably healed and getting started at it again...

oooh a broke toe!  That would really hurt and be very difficult to exercise.  Like, one has to pretty much use their feet for everything. How did you manage!?!?!?

The ironic thing about breaking my toe is that I broke it by walking into the base of my exercise bike! I knew that thing would get me hahaha!
