dumping vs steak stuck??!!
I am just under 7 months out from my RNY. I believe I experience dumping in Mexico on my very first cruise.
I thought I was dying. It was the most horrible situation, and plan on never experiencing that again!
Here is my question.... Does dumping last for hours? My episode lasted every bit of 3 hours. And did you have an uncomfortable feeling the next day? I felt like my insides were on edge for about 24hrs.
I am assuming I dumped, but I supposed I could have had a piece of steak get stuck!
My symptoms: started approx 10 minutes after my last bite
horrific abdominal pain, sharp and burning, dry heaving like crazy madness, flushed, and sweaty.
I never actually vomited and I never had a bowel movement.
shed some light!!!
Dumping is only from eating too much sugar. It is a tightness in the chest that makes me feel I am having a heart attack. Sometimes followed by diarrhea. It lasts about 30 minutes and then is over. Nothing the next day. It sounds like you had food stuck. When you eat too much too fast your pouch get strained and it takes a day or so to feel better.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
I experience dumping with sugar and sometimes fat. I was at a meeting and everyone was having a slice of pound cake. I took the smallest piece but what a mistake. I finally had to find a bathroom and throw up. The piece of cake was small but it was high sugar and high fat.
Cake icing makes me dump. I feel very hot and my throat does a strange little contortion. Once everything is up, I'm fine.
Steak needs to be chewed and chewed and chewed. I don't digest it very well. Remember to chew your foods really well and eat slowly. I'm still having trouble eating slowly after 6 1/2 years.

Did you eat something high in sugar? Or just steak? You won't dump on steak.

That's not dumping. Sometimes food just doesn't sit right, gets stuck, is eaten too fast, too greasy, too spicy, too much.... you get the picture.

Like the other members that have replied to you, RNY post-ops don't dump on steak. However, if you didn't chew really well, it sounds that it was stuck. Make sure to chew really well with any food but especially beef.

I did have some sugar ladies!
I had-
1 strawberry
2 round Melon balls
5 blueberries
for my appetizer and then 2oz or so of steak, followed by 2 bites of my hubby's lava cake!
In the future I will be much more careful with steak and sugar!
This was by far my most awful experience!!
thank you all so much for helping ;)
I have done the "stuck steak" thing. I usually get the "foamies" before I vomit.
I have also done the dumping syndrome thing too. Mine lasts 3 hours.
I too was not sure if it was a "stuck" or a "dump" at times. Doesn't much matter, both are causes by bad eating habits.
I learned that I can eat beef steak if cut it by shaving super thin small slices then chewing it really well. At diner I am the last one eating.
Good Luck to you.
