Adding carbs helped jump start loss?

Your stall didn't break "because" you ate candy. It broke because your three week stall ended. Stalks are to be expected. I also didn't post any pictures. However, all the vets here are simply trying to get you to understand the seriousness of your actions. They've seen multiple failures so when someone throws red flags at three weeks, it gets attention

No, it did not break because I ate candy. After I had the candy, the scale moved. I got re-motivated, followed program, and nothing. Added in more carbs with my shakes, and the scale moved again. It wasn't the candy, but weight loss resulted when I had carbs. Everyone has a sweet spot for what works best for them, and I wanted to know what other people were doing. I made a mistake, and wanted to learn from it. That is what the post was supposed to be about. I was honest about my actions, I didn't lie or hide it. Yes, my actions were serious, I get it. Believe me, its been drilled in. I will never eat another Three Musketeers for the rest of my life! However, I will figure out what works best for me using the appropriate food and carbs, and go from there.
I don't believe I have a sugar addiction. I had one half of a fun sized bar several days ago, and that is it. I can stop, and I did. It was the first candy I had in several months, considering pre-surgery diet and post-surgery. I also wanted to test the dumping thing, as I am pretty afraid of it and want to know what it feels like in controlled setting, at home.
Yes, I can do this. Thank you for your supportive response. I get 64 ounces of water, 60 grams of protein, less than 20 carbs, work out everyday and track everything. I'm doing everything I'm supposed to, except one bite of something bad. I wanted to say thank you though, I appreciate your not belittling me and making fun of me like several others have.

I really think it was a coincidence that you lost 2 lbs after eating the candy. But please mysty888, be careful with carbs. Complex carbs are the ones you should eat. Simple carbs are NOT malabsorbed, digestion starts in the mouth. Sweets are what got some of us, including myself, into having a weight problem and it can be a problem with maintenance. Now is your honeymoon period and the time to learn new eating habits that will help you in maintenance in a few years after the malabsorption is gone.
I guess you may feel attacked by us, but we are trying to help guide you. I apologize for those who are being silly at your expense. Please understand, they do mean well.
I have heard some people say they do something different to shake up their weight loss when it comes to a stall. I think though that in general, that's more the old, unhealthy, yo-yo dieting mindset that many of us found ourselves in. I don't think you need to start trying anything different this early out. If you just stick with things, the weight truly will come off. Your body is unique, of course, but all of ours are and we all lost weight with this surgery when we follow the recommended plan. The 3 week stall is notorious. You'll have a few more too. But when stalls happen, inches still come off. Try not to pay too close attention to your daily fluctuations and just look at your progress over time. This will work for you if you keep it simple and don't try to micromanage it or trick your body. Hang in there, the early weeks are not easy, but it gets easier. You got this!
Thank you for the support. Its been frustrating, and I made a mistake and was trying to learn from it. Every doctor recommends something slightly different, so I am trying to find what works for me. My three week stall came at day 8. It was horrible, I was in pain, couldn't have much of anything and was frustrated. I made a mistake. No denial, a mistake. Didn't want to trick my body, just wanted for a minute to not feel like I made the biggest mistake of my life, and then tried to learn from it. This forum today has made me feel more shame than I ever have being overweight. Thank you for the kind advice.
I think some people were a bit harsh here -- but this isn't the sunshine and rainbows board. It is a kind of support. The kick in the pants kind, but the advice is solid, the delivery was bit over the top... after the initial escalation.
Looking up three-week stall you would have seen that it is the MOST common RNY stall.
No.. you should not have tried candy at three weeks out. You were curious about dumping. If you never eat too much of it you won't have to worry about it. I personally do not think carbs are the devil. I ate plenty of them while I was losing. My plan didn't restrict carbs - so I was able to lose my weight and eat them. I also had some candy. I have a piece of Sugar Free Russell Stover next to me. YOU might be one of those people that can eat carbs with reckless abandon and still lose weight or you might have to be hard-core low carb. Your mileage will vary. It was the candy choice that was really called into question - not carbs in general.
There is no way that we can know if adding the sugar/carbs/calories or whatever brought you out of your stall or just time in general. I never stalled. I ate carbs. Who knows?
I would recommend experimenting with something a bit healthier. I would also recommend not pushing the dumping envelope because either you learn you DO and you get super sick or you find out you DON'T and that is just a gateway for adding crap you don't need into your diet later. No one NEEDS that much sugar. I am 2 years out and lost my ever loving mind 2 weeks ago thinking a cake pop was small enough to handle. NOPE. Reminded me to be more mindful of my eating and that I am NOT a normal person - lol.
Anyway - good luck. I hope it all works out for you. I think you really wanted some advice?
Yes, I wanted advice. I wanted to know if people lost weight with some carbs, or none at all. My Doc is completely no carb, but that doesn't seem to work. I don't plan on going overboard, but yes, I made a mistake and wanted to learn from it, that is all. I was also super afraid of dumping, so much that I wasted years not having surgery because of it. I had one bite of candy, and not one bite since. I live with a sugaraholic and three teenage boys, so avoiding candy has been hard and I slipped up once. I don't think being made to feel like the worst person on the face of the earth was necessary. I never tried to justify eating candy, I wanted to learn about carbs because of what happened. No one talks about the three week stall, or at least I never heard of it before surgery, I missed it somehow. I wasn't prepared to be in so much pain and not see the scale go up from following all the rules strictly. As soon as I can have fruits and veggies, I will add appropriate carbs. Thanks again.
