Yes. You need iron.

I don't have period yet my iron keeps dropping.

I needed iron infusions.  then I am fine for a while.. then need them again...

Just wondering if you have to take an iron supplement after surgery if you have had a hysterectomy? Iron levels are fine pre-op. I know everyone is different and docs have different thoughts about things for different patients. But just curious what others have experienced. Thanks!

I had a hysterectomy many years ago and I have to take iron. Mine tanked once and I ended up having to have a blood transfusion and two series of iron infusions,so take your iron and track your labs, don't just depend on what your surgeon /pcp says.

Awesome advice everyone, thank you!! I will keep up my labs for sure! Do not need any other problems to occur.

Most women I know who have had a RNY or DS and who no longer menstruate eventually need some kind of iron supplement.

I didn't take any extra iron for 3 years after my RNY because I had a hysterectomy a number of years ago, but I noticed that my levels had dropped significantly two years in a row.  When they dropped the third year, I started taking a daily iron supplement (60mg Vitalady Tender Iron).  That not only stopped the falling numbers but raised my levels back up to a more comfortable level.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
