6 year anniversary

Today is the 6 year anniversary of one of the most important days of my life.  When I started this journey about 6 and a half years ago, my bmi was just over 52 and as of today, I am just over 30.  I am so close to getting out of that obese group - would have been nice to make it for today but it will certainly keep me motivated to make it happen asap.

It has been an incredible journey.  I hit 90 pounds lost close to the end of my first year and didn't really move much beyond that until I started having my plastics work.  Surgically removing some excess fat and the skin helped me take off a few more along with the first few days of each recovery when the last thing I wanted to do was get up and head to the kitchen.  At the start of this year, I recommitted myself to following all of the rules to a T again.  Thankfully, I have taken off an additional 20 pounds for an overall loss of 125.  I haven't dieted since the surgery but have gotten back to the lifestyle plan that was given to me when I left the hospital.

I have never regretted the decision to have surgery.  I viewed it as my last chance to finally get my weight under control and live by that every day.  I am grateful to my bariatric program for the support groups that they run.  To this day I try an attend the meetings twice a month.  They keep me focused.  While I am happy with the way that I look now, I am ecstatic at how wonderful I feel.  I have no daily aches and pains, diabetes is no longer a concern, and blood pressure and cholesterol are under control.  I even enjoy my workouts now - who would have thought that would have ever happened.

Good luck to others in their journey.

I celebrated 6 years last month and feel that it is a huge milestone! YAY for keeping active in the support community. I have moved and no longer have easy access to a support group but this online spot is a great check in for me.

My total loss was 105 lbs, and I am maintaining now at 95 lbs lost. That, I must say, is even with living in an extended stay hotel for a long work assignment the last 6 months. I eat out once daily. Consider it the "Invasion of Normandy" battle in the war of maintenance!

I too can say "NO REGRETS"! The rewards are fantastic - great health, great labs, and just realizing I am not the fattest woman in the room....in the restaurant...in the aisle at Costco.

Congratulations and continued best wishes!

Happy anniversary!

You've lost 125 pounds since your high weight. But, without surgery, how much higher would your high weight have climbed over the past six years? You could have been 200 pounds higher right now. I know my high weight always kept creeping up.

Great job.

6'3" tall, male.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.

You are so right.  I was putting on about 10 pounds a year right before surgery.  So I would have been much bigger by now had I not had this surgery.

Congrats.  I celebrated 6 years post RNY in March.  I've gained 5 pounds but am still at goal weight.  Maintenance is HARD work.  I have to stay on my plan, keep a food journal, weigh daily, etc.

Keep up the good work.

Glad to see you as well. I think about you every now and then, wondering how you are doing. It's been a while. I'm doing good, still managing to maintain my weight loss and even losing a few more lately. Finally feeling normal in this new body.
