First pre op appointments; completed

Today I had the upper GI series performed; I've been through that before so I knew what to expect. The radiologist said everything looked normal with just a bit of reflux.

I then saw the social worker for a psych eval. She was very nice. I was kind of nervous that she'd find some reason to "disqualify" me but she seemed really bent on me succeeding.

And finally I saw the nutritionist. Also very nice. She gave me some Unjury samples. The behaviors I'm going to focus on changing over the next three weeks:

Eliminating white carbs

No carbonated drinks

Eliminate caffeine (I'm whining already)

Getting 48-60 oz water per day

Getting between 75-105 gm protein per day

Tracking my food in My Fitness Pal

Using a food scale to track protein

I gained 7 lbs over the holidays. Oh well. I'm going to change it now :)

Cheers,

Getting a head start is really great. It should serve you very well. You have a good plan

Three things I could not be without: a kitchen scale, my MFP account to log every bite, and my Fitbit.

The only thing about your plan I would tweak is drinking more. 64 ounces is usually the recommended minimum. 100 is better.

I see by your doctor that we are practically neighbors. I had my surgery at Faulkner in JP.

I love JP! I used to be a visiting nurse in Boston and would occasionally see patients in that part of town.

You are well on your way, congrats! I hope you don't mind me offering a suggestion? Start the 30-30 rule with drinking and eating. Best of luck to you.

Yes, I started that no drinking right before/right after meals rule tonight. I'm sure it will get easier with practice.

The first 5 items on your list, I began cold turkey on day one, the day of my 1st Supervised Weight Loss Diet class.  I began using a food scale within the next 2 days.  As for tracking food...that took me a couple weeks to begin.  Once I found MyFitnessPal I began tracking my food and have never stopped.

I eliminated the caffeine gradually - did about a week or two of 75% regular, 25% decaf, then a couple weeks of 50/50, then a couple weeks of 25% regular/75% decaf, then finally all decaf.  This could be an option if you have enough time and if you're finding it too hard to give up the caffeine cold turkey.

That's kind of what I'm doing. I've started drinking half decaf and half regular. No side effects yet :)
