exercising at home

What are your favorite ways to do this?

Right now we live very close to bike and walking trails and gyms...but I am moving in a few weeks and we will be living in a more rural location. I am planning how to set up our house and I would really like to make exercise at home possible. Any favorite pieces of equipment or dvd's, that sort of thing? I also have a special needs son that tends to be heavy and sedentary, so this will be good for everyone, really....

I've always liked The Firm series of videos. We have a treadmill and eliptical in our house too.

I have a recumbent bike I use when watching TV. But y best exercise is getting out and walking, and staying active as much as I can each day.

I have access to a wonderful community centre/gym that is about a 2 minute drive from my house so I use that a lot in the winter/colder months but I have two Labs and I am out hiking with them daily all year round. Hiking is amazing exercise and its free!  I will also on rainy days where its just too wet to be out I will do things like sit ups, squats, lunges, push ups those kinds of exercises that are easy to do with my own body weight. A lot of people like YouTube videos, or free exercise apps on their phones and some love DVDs.  Good Luck with whatever you go with as exercise is so good for your mind, body & soul.

I really love Jillian Michael's Yoga Meltdown videos.  They get your heart rate up and tine you at the same time.

I like P90x by Beachbody. It has a nice variety and your son might really like the kickboxing one. If you are near a school there might be an outdoor track.

I've been jogging/walking outside in our neighborhood.

When it is rainy I used the recumbent bike indoors.

I have a few dvd's for core and yoga but I haven't been using them much to be honest

if you have hulu or amazon prime you can get free exercise videos. or you can get free youtube

this month our local yoga studio is hosting a special for $60 which I am doing to alternate with the jogging.

I try to get outside...For "some" good Vitamin D.  But when it is raining I will put on some good rock music and just do paths in the house.  I will go from room to room...Walking to the beat of the music.  While I'm walking I'll also do modified pushups against the kitchen counter.  I have 2 pound weights...I will swing them or do curls while I'm walking.  You don't need weights...Just grad a can that feels good and move it around your body...Using muscles you haven't used it a while...Lift it over your head, around your back (from one hand to another), out in front, across the front, behind your head and then straight up...Be creative.  The right music helps a lot...
