I take medication for bipolar, my psychiatrist has said that if I can't take tablets post op then I'll need to cancel the operation. I'm feeling quite devastated.

Can you take tablets post op? What was everyone else's experience?

Thanks

They had me taking tablets in the hospital. If they aren't large it shouldn't be an issue but I'd talk to your Dr about it to make sure as I know every doc has there own ways of doing things.

You can take tablets after weight loss surgery.

You can take tablets after surgery. I've seen quite a few people on these boards who did not have to interrupt their meds.

Good luck!

Most people take tablets after surgery. You may have to split them for a few weeks if they are large.

There are a lot of people with bipolar that have had WLS, and they have no more problems finding a course of meds than someone without surgery would.

Thank you all for being reassuring. My surgeon wants to see me Thursday with my medication so hopefully it will be good news!

Is post-op pain relief liquid or tablet?

The pain meds I received for when I left the hospital were in pill form but I think I only took maybe two. The hardest med for me to take was the actigal (supposed to assist in preventing gallbladder issues). They were rather large gelcap but I got advice here to take them with warm decaf tea and that really helped me.

I had post-op oxycodone which are tiny pills, but they encouraged me to switch over to liquid tylenol as soon as possible.  Tastes horrible but whatever ;).  I had to crush all of my pills for two weeks and now I just take pills one at a time.  I am 18 days post-op.

my dr goes by the m&m candy size, any thing that size or smaller is ok. If bigger, crack in 1/2.  Capsules need to be opened for a month.

Good luck!!
