Going Nutty with this Itching!

Hi all, looking for advice please. I am 6 weeks and 1 day post op. I itch from my shoulders to my heels. It is relentless and I have gotten very little sleep for the past 48 hours. I return to work next week and cannot handle this while working in a medicsl office - the patients will think I am crazier than normal scratching constantly.

I have tried benadryl cream, 1% hydrocortisone cream and oral/systemic benadryl. Any other thoughts? 6 week appt with surgeon is in 2 days and will chat with her then. Also is this something more appropriate to address with my Primary Care Provider?

Thanks for any insight you might be able to share.

How is your fluid intake?? Maybe add more fats into your meals. Full fat milk, cottage cheese, Greek yogurts. Chicken thigh rather than breast, tuna packed in oil. Not all the time, but try a few to see if it helps.

Thanks Patty, a couple weeks ago surgeon told me to switch to skim milk as I had a mini dumping episode she attributed to the 2% milk in the pudding I had eaten. I'll see where I can up the fat to check my response. Yesterday I had 506 calories and 10 grams of fat, total.

More fat in my foods helped my skin out.

Are you on any new meds? New detergents? Soaps? If I was itching from head to toe I would assume I was allergic to something!

I was itchy right after surgery because, at first, I was allergic to the pain meds. Then when I got home I was allergic to the adhesive in the bandages.

I was thinking this too... as for anything new there was only one random product but that was 4 days ago, used one time and it keeps getting worse. Sheets were washed about a week ago with tge same detergent we always use. I am literally leaving bloody marks all over my torso :(

I agree, add fat to your diet. My skin has been so dry and flaky, and itchy. When I started adding a little more fat it seemed to get better. Avocado, fuller-fat cheese or yogurt, little olive oil. And don't forget to add plenty of liquids.

Thanks... lots of options makes me feel I have the ability to maybe feel better soon!

I was itchy too. Adding more fats helped me as well.

I am 6 weeks post op tomorrow. I am having the exact same issue.

For me, I don't think it's the fat grams. I think I'm getting too much some days.

I'm starting to wonder if it's dehydration. I've been struggling to get my water in. Trying to do more and more each day. Hopefully I will see an improvement soon.

Good luck - hope your's improves soon too!
