Unsupportive folk

So i took my children to a birthday party this evening and as I'm on the pre op diet i was prepared. I brought a shake, broth, water, diet pop and a jello.

So this one lady i know kept pestering me about not eating. It was horrible like she wants to see me fail. She got a piece of cake and put in front of me told me to eat in moderation. Told me it wouldn't kill me. So my response was of it does kill me in the night will you be there?

I know that wasn't ideal but would yousay? What do you say to the unsupportive folk in your life?

I tell people, "My doctor and I agreed on a strict diet for my health. I'm sorry, I can't eat that, but feel free to have a piece for me!" That generally shuts them up. I just tell myself that they don't understand and that it's not their fault. For people who continue to push food on me, I just stop associating with them. Just remember- it's OK to say No.

You didn't say if she was or wasn't aware of your decision to have surgery. Either way, With food pushers, they always tend to back off if you mention a food allergy. Sorry, I'm allergic to XX (for baked food eggs is pretty easy).

Doesn't matter if they know you- since people can develop a food allergy at any point in life.

I haven't shared my surgery with many outside of family- so haven't really had unsupportive comments. There lies the benefit of keeping it to yourself.

Then the rest is up to you. Take it- to get her off your back-- but what you do with it is up to you.

The first Christmas holiday after my surgery my boss gave out a box of cookies to everyone via his secretary. He (like most) knew nothing about my surgery, and I didn't want to put his secretary in an awkward position to make excuses not to accept it.

I gave away the cookies to my staff. It felt oddly empowering to take control over the situation in that way. Find a way to take control.

Food-pushers amaze me! Why would someone do that??? It must make them feel better about their own overeating?

I don't understand why they do it but they need to stop. Its frustrating. By the way congratulations on your weight loss success.

Maybe I am harsh but here is how I handled my sister who bakes beautifully decorated fantastic cakes and insisted on bringing me a big slice.

I left it in front of me for a while, then picked it up and dumped it in the garbage.

I did not say anything, but it was the last time she offered me cake.
