Not as much weightloss as expected

Great idea. He has been insisting I eat more calories since June. I'm just worried about constant hunger now that I'm used to all this darned food. I'm going back to the drawing board and creating a new meal plan!

Oh ... my other co worker that only lost 50lbs, had her surgery in the same office I did . Different surgeon but same rules and practice. But there's yet another co worker who had the same surgeon as me and she lost a lot. Hmmmm

Sounds like they need to think about changing up their recommendations! I wonder if the third coworker is following their guidance or her own/someone elses?

I was really reluctant to eat so little at first as it goes against everything I've ever heard or read about healthy weight loss, but darn it if it doesn't work and that the vets here are right about "starcation mode" being a myth. Go figure!

If you are maintaining your weight on 1200-1400 calories a day, that is the number of calories your body needs to maintain at your current weight. Lots of people here maintain on 1000-1200. It's not "fair" but it is what it is.

If you want to lose more weight, you will have to cut back on your calories or carbs or both. I consumed less than 900 a day until I got to my goal. Most of us here who have reached our goals have done the same. I would find a new dietitian.

You're right Laura. Maintaining is absolutely right! Because my weight hasn't budged. I'm going to bring those calories waaay down and eat even cleaner. It's just crazy that when I use any other calorie counting app, maintenance at my weight , height and age is at about 1600. I would think anything below that would be a loss. Even at a lb a week. I'm desperate .

Remember: we are already the metabolic outliers. We're already the weird ones, basically. Recommendations for everyone else don't apply to us. If you want to think of it another way, our bodies are exceptional. Why would standard dietary advice work for us? It never did before surgery, and it won't now.

I'm in maintenance at around 1400 calories a day (but don't work out). My goal for losing was a minimum of 900 but did most of my losing between 950-1050. when I wanted to maintain, I upped to 1250.

I don't have any metabolic issues (that I'm aware of).

Also I drank 100oz a day. I cant believe your low liquids intake hasn't landed you in the hospital for dehydration.

Exactly what Laura said. The simple answer is, you need to drop your calories if you want to lose more. It sucks, but that's the only answer.

Stay under 800 until you get where you want to be. It's not easy, and you'll have to figure out how best to do it. The struggle is real.

Along with what everyone else said, I find that so,etimes when I think I'm hungry I'm really thirsty. I drink more like 100oz of fluids in a day. I'd consider upping your fluid intake.

"Edited because tl;dr: Take advantage of your remaining "honeymoon" period. Concentrate on upping fluids and making sure that protein and not carbs are the basis for your daily calorie consumption.

Well the great news is that you're still in what is considered the "honeymoon" phase. If you can tweak a couple of things right now and make a good go of it you'll still likely lose much or even most of your excess weight. Everyone is different but personally I would focus on one or two changes at a time and bounce the rest of what may turn out to be distractions.

1) Others have mentioned it and nobody loves doing it but you'll need to get your calories down. Eight hundred/day is a good number to start with. Many postops don't go up to a thousand or over until well into year one. And yes, there are those who eat nine hundred per day in maintenance. Also not fun. But if you ask 99% of OH members who must keep their calories that low to avoid regain, most will tell you it's entirely worth it to them.

2)Up your fluid intake. 80oz is considered the bare minimum by my WLS center. For me that looks like 80oz of water in addition to all the diet coke or whatever other sugar free drink I can get down. Maybe at least try something like that? If it doesn't work for you, you can always go back and lower your fluid intake again. (caveat on the diet coke. I'm almost nine years out)

You are in a bind with the hunger thing. I get that. You can absolutely "spend" your daily calories on an eating plan that will do more to keep you satiated.
Calories in vs calories out is always the bottom line. How you decide to distribute your calories is huge.

Most of us farther out have an eating plan that can be summarized in three sentences: protein first. bites of non-carby veggies if room. Carby veggies and/or simple sugars very rarely. (think NEVER****il you get to goal.

I'd say good luck but I don't think you'll need it. You're going to do great - and you'll be so happy that you caught and corrected these issues early out.

Nobody wins when people de-activate or just quit the forum. I'm glad to see you decided to post and stick around a bit. We really aren't too mean around here, I promise. =)

Thanks so much for the great advice.

I definitely need to up my water intake and reduce those calories. I don't eat simple sugars and the only carbs I eat are the type that sneak into my day like through my protein shakes, protein bars sometimes and salad dressings when I'm not using vinegerette (sp). I really want to lose as much as I can in the first year and I appreciate all the support you guys have given me on this post. I have a feeling it's going to work this time
