I thought I was in labor today and I'm not even pregnant!

Today, was probably the most painful day I have had since having my daughter 28 years ago! I had a protein shake and then, for lunch some mock chilly which was just ground turkey, reground to be really fine, some crushed tomato sauce, and the chilly powder mix for flavor. I put a little cheese on it and ate that. (1 cup with 1 oz of cheese). I had the same meal yesterday and I was fine. In fact, yesterday I even had a few beans that I sprinkled on the chilly which normally give me gas but I was looking for some fiber. Today, no beans at all!

Pretty much right after I ate, I started to cramp. These were not just any cramps. They were like labor pains. They came and rolled though my bowels. I started to have foam in my mouth and had to spit it out. I was in utter agony for about 2 hours. I kept trying to use the bathroom but only very little was passing. (I feel that I need fiber in my system to move things along.) I was so exhausted once the pain subsided that I fell asleep for abut four hours.

THIS IS SO NOT ME!!!

What happened? I want to blame the protein shake. Even though it was hours before I ate my mock chilly, it just makes no sense to feel like I did.

Not a vet, but sometimes when I'm very constipated I get cramping like that. It's worse when the cramping doesn't result in anything, bathroom-wise. Could that be what was going on? Only wondering since your mention of needing fiber/only very little passing, etc

Definitely! I noticed once I was able to go, even if it was just a very little amount, I was feeling much better. I noticed that I kept burping which means I must have had a belly full of air as well.

I need to cut back on my eating even more but did go out and look for some very high fiber stuff. Something's got to give!

No, it wasn't the protein shake.

You're less than a month out of RNY. One cup of food is an awful lot. Just because you avoided repercussions once with that meal doesn't mean it wasn't going to come back and haunt you a second time.

You really should cut back. If you're eating this much now, it will be a lot more a year from now. And you are going to have a lot of painful episodes.

I thought I was ok eating this much ... It seems like I have learned nothing in all the years I have been dealing with surgeries and the like.

I had another post where I mentioned that I though I may be eating too much. I am at 198 right now and it is only coming off really slowly. Once I cut back on calories, the scale and waist started to move.

Back to reading my post op stuff ...

Thanks!

I didn't realize how early out you were! My above comment about constipation still holds, but also at 1 month out I could eat less than half a cup of food. 1 or 2 oz of meat at a time. Otherwise, overeating also can result in pain. You may not feel a "full" feeling like you did before to tell you you've had enough. It's common to go from just fine to PAIN! Or GONNA THROW UP! In a matter of a minute.

Might I suggest you put your surgery dates on your profile. The answers to your question will vary depending on how far out you are from surgery!

My other suggestion would be to upload an avatar, it makes a difference in how people relate to you too. You will get more "investment" as people will remember who you are!!!

Hi there I am only 2.5 weeks out and I find I can get severe gas pains as well. I take a tablespoon of oatbran every morning with my yogurt and it relieves the constipation. I know some people may say you need to be low carb but when I was on the ducan diet which is low carb low fat they suggested the oatbran and it really does help. The downside is you need to go to a health food store to buy it. Hopes this helps.
