I would save the 3k per month. It sounds like your mother is in good health so she may live a long time. Any help you get from medicaid would not be comparable to what she has, in what I have seen from peers going through the same decision making process.

I live outside Houston so everything is about an hour away. 40 minutes seems reasonable to me.
