What's on your Monday menu?
Good Morning Gang. Another Monday is upon us. I do not have today off, and we are having tours twice today for Walktober. Irvin and I got a ton of stuff done this Saturday and yesterday I made chili, soup, and a turkey since it was a rainy cool day I figured those things would be perfect to make and have for the week.
QOTD: When it comes to cool weather food are you a soup, chili, or stew person? Me I'm all three and I love to make different ones throughout the Fall and Winter months.
B: coffee and protein shake
L: chili with cheese
D: veal cutlets with mushrooms
I have to finish cleaning up the office.
Have a great day everyone!!!
Good morning ! ( Well as good as it can be w a noreaster going on ... )
Im feeling thoroughly guilty for not being out in LI - frankly the thought of saving my heating system by buying a generator , stealing electricity and pumping out the basement in bitter totally unheated cold ( before the storm it was 12 inches deep w no sump pump working for days - considered myself lucky )
I should take pics if its deeper cuz the heating system/ ho****er heater will definitely have to be replaced and thats a $40,000 dollar plus job ( seven zones ultra efficient furnace and large top quality water heater and supplement )
Technically the city is responsible since they turned the electricity off and were informed by my atty that a sump pump needs to constantly run to prevent flooding - not to mention the electric prescribed oxygen machine this critical care patient needs to run too . But I dont need the headache nor the enormous job of replacing everything if its not too late .....
Grrr - I guess I better get out there .
Sundays food - not much - 1/2 enormous cream donut from Paris Baguettes eaten in tiny bites . ( luckily sugar doesnt agree w m)
brunch - small part of Pret chipotle chicken Mexican salad w yogurt dressing
New Zealand green mussels w fresh red garlic sauce ( about ten) sopped up w a bit of toasted garlic bread ( I dont mean the grease- smeared kind but the ff sourdough loaf containing roasted garlic cloves yum !
Chai tea latte ff sf of course
Coffee latte ( same)
Watermelon juice
d- leftover Ikea almond crusted cod w lemon sauce peas and mashed potatoes all enhanced by butter flavored ff popcorn seasoning ( freeze dried butter )
Today b- cheese plate w salads - tabouleh , pickled onions , roasted corn n pepper salad , moroccan carrot farro raisin n almond salad , tzaziki n potato salad . Needless to say I just take bites not SCARF ...
.
Interestingly there was a study comparing the long term weight loss success of three types of eaters post bariatric surgery .
The first category .. so called foodies like myself that love to experiment w taste and guiltlessly make great food an everyday priority are the most successful by far years out .. ( counterintuitive isnt it )
Whereas emotional eaters and lifelong food restricters ( dieters ) are NOT nearly as successful on average . Weird !
L- might skip it or eat a sandwich or soup
D - tbd
Because I 14 years post RNY still have significant malabsorption ( In my opinion cuz I never abused it - I simply usually don't enjoy fat ) Im not worried about gaining weight from the cheese.
chai tea latte ff sf
coffee skim latte ff sf
snack- part of pear tart ( mostly the fruit - leave most of the crust)
Im definitely a huge soup grrrl .. Pretty much eat it
w every meal or as a snack. ( year round ) My Parents think eating soup and salad for supper is WEIRD - I think laying down after eating cheese and salami brings GERD lol.
Chili- not so much though I LOVE the white chicken chili from Pret .
Stew - Sure , anytime I can eat bits of meat or fish n veg n various kinds of potato n yucca n plaintain in tasty lowfat sauce Im THERE.
But Ive learned not to make crock- pots full unless guests are coming :) - struggle perserving / doing justice to ( by eating them ) commercial portioned leftovers as it is .
My tiny apartment sized refrigerator is already packed to bursting
in just a couple of days ...

Good mornin Jennifer and all.
it was a hectic weekend. Glad it's over. I found out I have an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon in Lubbock on November 10th! Progress! I wi**** was sooner as it's been really really bad pain wise...limiting my movement and such. BUT...it's sooner than I expected! So glad for that, now just to have good weather!
QOTD: I love it all.
B: eggs, sausage and cheese with coffee of course
L: ????
D: shrimp spring rolls.
the last one also applies to dogs blowing their summer coats.
The truth is the LAST time I changed the boiler ( and to be fair almost all the pipes in the giant basement ) it was such a lengthy tortuous ( imagine being stuck in a mostly unventilated basement with serious breathing issues) and onerous job ... I truly cant imagine having to do it again . It took MONTHS .
I DREAD what Im going to find out there and the worst part is this huge destruction might be caused by simple idiocy ... idiots in positions of power failing to factor in obvious contingencies .
Im really depressed at the very idea of driving out there . Im giving myself permission to immediately leave ( after taking pics and packing the car )
Good news is the apartment application seems to be on the right track for signing a lease ... but so many things could go wrong . Jes prayin!
Also an aquaintance told me the WORST cancer causing , breathing problem causing and pollution increasing South Bronx waste burning plant is literally just around the corner from these new waterfront buildings which HE says the developers bought the land very cheaply for from the City because both the river and the land are profoundly polluted ( this was an industrial area and still largely is - warehouses factories and hugely tall projects )
He accurately described the Fresh Direct warehouse being just a few blocks away - I saw it last nite when I predictably got lost ...and supposedly its right next door complete with garbage barges lined up to either burn or dump their poison contents into the river ...
This South Bronx Waste Burning Starion is by FAR the biggest and worst air polluter in NYC ( maybe anywhere in the first world ! )
The asthma rates for children and adults and cancer rates including very rare ones are sky high here in the South Bronx.
Repeated shocking exposes have been written to no avail because the vast majority of the inhabitants are poor and too busy surviving to put pressure on the City to improve their conditions.
IF that plant is there ( Ill find out this morning ) I gave to seriously rethink living here despite the ( relatively) low rent , great amenities and super apartment .
Ugh!!!
My life SUCKS right now !
Its clearly time to break out the rose geranium organic bubblebath ... fruit scented bodywashes ... a great book , slightly boozy tea and chocolate ! ( from my secret stash for emergencies only lol! )
I haven't been on here much lately -- I've been super busy moving from Florida to New Jersey to help my sister with her new business. Lately, I've been really focused on losing weight again so I can requalify for weight loss surgery. ð?'ª
Here's my menu for today:
? Breakfast: Vegetable Frittata
? Lunch: Italian Chicken Wrap
? Dinner: Eggplant Parmigiana
QOTD: When it comes to cool weather food, I'm definitely a soup person!
