Disruption of the gastric partion
I had a roux-en-Y gastric bypass about 23 years ago at Celebration performed by Dr. Keith Kim. I've had zero problems. This week I had an EGD & colonoscopy after a terrible bout of colitis. Here are the report findings. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
-Disruption of the gastric partition. The entire remnant stomach was accessible with the scope.
I'm kind of freaked out. I've had no problems and have no idea when this occurred. My GI doctor told me to not worry about and it and at my age to not have the surgery redone. I'm 72.
Thanks for your time,
Karen
No, I've never heard of that. One good thing about it (so long as the disruption didn't add to the colitis) is that they can now routinely examine the original stomach for any changes. We have stomach trouble in my family and I worry my old stomach just sitting there potentially will hide cancer someday.
If you haven't had a massive regain and are at a healthy weight I'd just leave it alone. It is irritating that doctors often don't want to pursue surgeries on anybody over 70 thinking that it is just a drain on the medical system. Or that we don't statistically have enough life left to get our money's worth out of it. But if repairing this would improve your health then maybe get a second opinion.
Hopefully your bout of colitis is all gone and you feel better already.
