Hey Barb! I'm so glad you went to Trader Joes and were relaxed and enjoyed it! My support group is 1.5 miles from my apt so I commend you for going each month! That's awesome. And now with TJs there, you have extra incentive!
I so so so do not blame you for wanting to scream!!!! I do think when people see us everyday the weight loss isn't as noticeable. I am going to visit old friends in June out if state and I can't wait for them to see me after six months. They damn well better ooh and aah lol!
How was the oopsie roll? I bought the cream cheese and the cream of tartar (which is a POWDER and all the grocery employees were trying to direct me to tartar sauce in the mayo aisle lol) but haven't tried my hand at them yet. I did try tofu shirataki noodles tonight and LOVED them!!! I will do a post just on those!
Hope you are having a great night! Em

Karin-you're not far from me! I go to Bethanny Beach once or twice each summer. It's so lovely on your side of the Bay bridge!
Thanks for the tips on cooking the noodles. Since I will definitely have leftover noodles, should I microwave them and add them to the saucepan with the pesto and shrimp and then wrap up the leftovers? Or should I not microwave the whole bag of noodles? I soooo hope I like them!

Pam, you're so sweet! I think you and I both are gonna have people suddenly just be amazed at our loss! I already get the "your face looks so much thinner" comment. I think people are often hesitant to comment on weight. Saying, "Have you lost weight? You look great" could be taken to mean "You aren't as fat and ugly as you once were" lol. At least in other peoples minds, so maybe that's why they don't tell us how fit and fabulous we are looking ;) That is what I tell myself anyway!
I have taken a few pics along the way and it's noticeable!
Enjoy your chocolate pudding! I bought a banana cream light and fit Greek yogurt in case of a sweet craving. I also like hot chocolate when it's cold out, with protein powder added in! Have a great Saturday!

You either don't live in a snowy area or you are a hardcore griller! Have fun with your college kid home :)

The original person who made the crusty cheese thing (it's so delicious and that description makes it sound gross lol) used muenster cheese! You'll love it.
I hear you on the clothes sizes. I was wearing a mixture of 22/24s and 26/28s. My pants are way too loose now but luckily I have a whole mini work wardrobe in 24 so I'm still ok. It's jeans that are the problem! I can pull mine off without unbuttoning them. I look ridiculous! I have cold weather 24s to get me to Spring and I honestly think I may be o****il May or so. It's going to be painful to have to buy a work wardrobe in 22 and 20 and 18...I work in marketing and I can't really wear the same thing everyday because I work in a very fashionable office. I will be throwing money out the window basically :( But Pam just know you're not alone! It sucks when people don't notice you've lost 60 lbs. someone asked me last week (excitedly) "So is it working?? Have you lost weight?" SERIOUSLY???
And the days of you looking like a sausage stuffed in casing (if you ever did!) are over so onto smaller and better for us!!!

I am 2 months post-op tomorrow and I have found two things that work.
1. I take a Senno (natural laxative pill) every 2-3 days in the evening, and when I wake up, well things have started to gurgle in the night and my morning starts off with a BM
2. I accidentally found out yesterday, when I made a new snack of baked kale chips (parchment paper on tray, preheat oven to 350, cover paper with small pieces of kale leaves, mist with olive oil, season with salt/pepper/garlic/crushed red pepper/whatever you like) and bake for 13-15 minutes until they have shrunk into dried crispy deliciousness...well, let's just say that kale is roughage and it DEFINITELY made me GO, if you know what I mean :) It's a crispy, low carb, not tons of protein snack...and it will move things right along...
Good luck! At least you have an entire forum of people who vividly know exactly what you are dealing with :/ Misery loves company, right? lol

Ahhhh yes, the good old liquid pre-op diet! I had to do liquids (protein shakes, sugar free jello, sugar free pudding, low fat cottage cheese) for two weeks, and I lost 18 lbs in those two weeks. I was 351 the day of surgery, and today I am 302.8. I have read a ton of posts on this forum and (this is solely my opinion and not the opinion of my doctor, my NUT, or many others on here) many of the people who have had great success have done so by eating high protein and low carb. Carbs are my weakness, so I have had to cut them out. While some people go to soft food and eat mashed potatoes, I did not. I stuck to tuna. I have found ways to "feel" like I am having carbs, like cheese crisps and kale chips...but I have not had a bite of noodle, rice, wheat, or potato. It's just not worth it for me - if I have a bite of noodle it escalates into half a pound lol. Well, I supposedly have restriction now, but I don't want to chance it. So yes, I have managed to lose quite a bit of weight in two months, and generally eat around 700 calories a day, 60-75 g of protein, and less than 20 g of carbs.
The liquid diet is tough and I found that my favorite thing was Minor's chicken base (ordered on amazon) with unflavored protein powder added. I needed some savory amidst all that sweet! I also bought (from amazon) the Bariatric Foodie Guide to the Perfect Protein Shake. What a lifesaver! While I was initially mixing water and powder in a shaker bottle, the book taught me to make DELICIOUS shakes. Like a shot of Da Vinci sugar free mint syrup with unsweetened almond milk, chocolate protein powder and a packet or two of Splenda. Or try adding PB2 (also from amazon!) which is powdered peanut butter and has protein and is low cal (45 cals in 2 tbsp) to a chocolate shake, or even a strawberry shake! I am telling you, the possibilities are endless! You got this! And 10 lbs in one week - how good does that feel?! Wait until you're 50 lbs down - you will be walking on air :) Welcome to an incredible journey!

Hi all! Happy Saturday! Snow is falling yet again, in DC. Nice day to hole up inside and go through my closets :) Tomorrow is my two month surgiversary and I am 1.8 lbs away from losing 50 lbs. Yayyyyyy! And lest you all compare yourselves to me, most people haven't noticed because I have THAT much to lose :/
Time Since Surgery: 2 months tomorrow!
B: Got this idea from someone who posted on here. I heated a small non-stick frying pan to a hot heat. I added a slice of pepperjack cheese and it cooked and bubbled and got a crust on it! I added 2 oz of Boar's Head Blackened turkey deli meat and pressed it on the piece of cheese. Then I flipped it over and heated the turkey on low for a minute. DELICIOUS! The cheese makes a crust so it's like an open faced sandwich!
L: For the fourth meal, I will have some leftover Pad Ka Prow chicken from a Thai restaurant. And then I will throw the rest away :(
D: I am having a friend over and I am planning to sauté Argentinian red shrimp (frozen from Trader Joe's) with a little pesto AND I am trying Shirataki soy noodles for the first time. My friend is game, so why not. Those of you who have made Shirataki noodles - do I boil them all tonight? Or store the unused ones in the liquid they come in?
S: Maybe protein hot chocolate made with Swiss Miss DIET powder, one splenda, one scoop chocolate protein powder.
I will be at almost 600 calories, 26g of fat, 15g of carbs, and 70g of protein.
What's on your menu today?

Thanks, all! About 99% of the time I find that if it sounds too good to be true, it's too good to be true :) And once again, that's the case here. Sad that they have banners on OH (that's how I heard about it). How many other unsuspecting people will see "42 g of protein" and get excited like I did and buy them?
Thanks again. Y'all are a wealth of knowledge!

You and me both, sister :( I hate hate hate that I don't have restriction!!! I use my kitchen scale for every meal. I haven't tried cauliflower crust yet but I am dying to! I just went to the grocery store today and I forgot to buy cauliflower :( Which recipe did you use? I have seen one that uses goat cheese as a binder, and another that uses pulverized (cooked) chicken! I recently tried Boar's Head turkey pepperoni but I didn't love it. At this point I would love just some pizza sauce and cheese on a cauliflower crust. That would not have enough protein, so I will think on what meat might taste good. Glad someone else on here isn't "stuffed" after 3 bites of food. Oh how I WISH that were the case!

Amen on the "too cold to even think about venturing outside". I did go to the grocery store in my neighborhood and I had to walk through all these piles of snow on the sidewalk. Ugh. I am just a few days after you (my RNY was 12/16) and my nutritionist wants me to have 3 meals a day (like you do) with no snacks, but I can barely reach 60 g of protein and can't exceed it, without a snack. How are you feeling and doing, 9 weeks out?

You sound like me! I had egg salad two weeks after surgery when I was cleared for soft foods. Some people on the forum cannot tolerate eggs for a while, but I was totally fine. I also easily tolerated canned tuna (with light mayo) and even chicken sausage if I chewed it a lot. I also found veggie burgers (read the labels, some are high carb and low protein) easy to tolerate, with some pepperjack cheese on it. Hopefully you enjoy the salmon. I remember all too well how happy I was to be done with sweet protein shakes and get some savory food in!!! Congrats on being on the other side of surgery, and I hope you have awesome success!

Hey Kelly! I am still working through the cheese crisps I bought but I would love to make my own. Do you just grate parmesan and make them? Do you put them on parchment paper or directly on a tray? Your menu sounds delish. I love most of the soups at Panera.

I have two bags of the noodles in my fridge, waiting for me to try them! My brother and his wife just tried them and texted me that they were great. They claim that they made a "healthy beef stroganoff". I do love noodles so I am sure I can make them work, so I can feel like I have my favorite food :) Perhaps they would be good with shrimp (high in protein, low in calls) and pesto...I will have to try them this coming week!

Hey Jodibee - how funny - I was seriously craving some egg drop soup last night but the rest of the food on the Chinese menus in DC are kind of eh, so we ended up with Thai. Soup must have been on our minds with this never-ending winter weather! I still haven't tried the ricotta and egg beaters, but it sounds so rich and delicious, I am going to have to :)

Hi Ceithlenn! You look like you have a good menu planned! Your V Day dinner sounds delicious. I bet your fiancé was thrilled :) I am slightly obsessed with goat cheese myself, so your lunch sounds awesome too :)

I mean, god knows I would love to be able to get protein in a shot...but is this the right kind? And would we absorb it? It claims to be for bariatric patients...but then again I just took Caltrate calcium CARBONATE accidentally for a month so I am second-guessing everything... http://www.newwheybariatric.com/product/

My surgery was the day before yours :) Glad you're feeling good!!! Congratulations on your success so far! And yes, feel free to post and not just lurk :) we are all going through some of the same things! It's a great support here :)

I'm so sorry to hear your news. I will be sending positive thoughts hour way. If it helps, I have many many people in my family who have successfully fought breast cancer, and WON! At my first mammogram last year, they found a few suspicious spots and did needle biopsies. They were painless and turned out to be non-cancerous. Try not to fear the worst (it is hard, I know). You're already a survivor and if needed, you will do it again!

Then you will definitely appreciate this HILARIOUS post! http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/amos/5132201/Surgery-is-th e-easy-way-out/
It gets better, and it's awesome you're excited! Good luck!

Hey Annie! You're back on the wagon! Awesome choices today :) I freaking love pickles - I am pretty sure they are 0 calories :) Starting the day with a 4 mile run is incredible. I gotta get off my ass!

Hey 3Bassethounds! We have some sun today too - seems to lift my spirits as well :) I hope you enjoy dinner out with your friends! Have a Happy Valentine's Day as well!

Happy Valentine's Day, Kenyatta!!! How nice to be able to go out with your boyfriend :) I am Valentine-less as of the week after my surgery...my on again/off again bf didn't want me to have the surgery and was really unsupportive and so I ended things :) I'm having Valentine's Day dinner with myself :)
That's awesome that you are a dumper...I have no idea if I am or not (I haven't had anything that would cause it yet) but based on my stomach of steel I fear I will not be one :( Well, wherever you go, I know you will find some delicious protein on the menu! Whenever I am going to go out and my friends are like, "Where can you go? What can you have?" I always say "as long as it's not a place that only serves pizza and pasta [two favorite foods of mine btw] I am good to go!".
Sorry about the snow! We got like 8 inches in DC and since they don't know how to plow here, there are just piles of snow alongside streets and sidewalks.
Have fun going out tonight!!!

Thanks, Scoobyluvr! I feel like I am doing well but then I read those damn posts about people who can't possibly eat more than 3 bites of food at a meal and eat 350 calories a day lol. Your menu looks delicious...cannot wait to eat brussels sprouts!!!
