Topic: RE: Panniculectomy

Hello. I had a gastric bypass 5 years ago. I have excess skin and some fat hanging down from my abdomen. I have a sore that I am treating now in the fold.

Im thinking of having a panniculectomy. Have any of you had this procedure? If so was it an extremely painful recovery? How long is the recovery time? What did you need to do for insurance to cover it?

I have heard that a tummy tuck - not the same as a panniculectomy - has a very painful recovery. Just wondering about pain level too.

Thanks!

Hi. I am 11 months post op with the rny. Has anyone's pouch ever hurt?

I have eaten too much at times or eaten too fast. For 2 days now i have twinges of pain when i eat or drink. Not severe. I go to doc next week but wondered if any has had this issue. It does not hurt when it is empty.

Thanks!

Topic: RE: How long does hair loss last

Hi all. Had gastric bypass 1/23 and have lost 44 lbs. I weighed 206. I can't get my ticket to work lol.

I have had thinning hair for many years and it was noticable. Well fast forward to 6/23ish and I have now lost so much hair it barely covers my scalp.

It's gone from the top, back and sides

I get 80 g of protein a day and take all vitamins. I take 10000 mcg a day of biotin and use rogaine.

So it has been coming out steadily since 6/23. Does anyone have any idea approximately how long this continues? I know it will stop when all the telegon hairs fall out but I wondered how long it lasted for you.

Thanks!

Hi All. My A1c is 6.1 after surgery in January and no meds. My surgeon wants me on diabetes meds to be in the non diabetic range. Did any of you have to do this and what were the medications your doctor chose? Thanks.

Topic: RE: constipation after rny

Hi All. Had my surgery 1/23/18. It went really well. I was 206 and now I'm 167. Diabetes is doing well too. My A1c is 6.1 now. Kidney function normal now. Its amazing.

I just have a terrible time with constipation. I take chewable iron from bariatric advantage as I have anemia.

My doctor told me the other day that I could take several capfuls of mirilax a day and get 3 colace pills in.

Do any of you take iron and have these problems after the RNY?

Thanks

Topic: RE: 3 weeks out and broken rib

Hi All. If you can believe it I fell as I was walking my dog the other day. I broke one rib and bruised others. Everything else is ok. Except...

I am taking Oxycodone for the pain as the extra strength tylenol doesn't cut it right now.

So no I am off to search the forum for constipation preventative info. The ribs are much much worse than my surgery. Good grief. LOL

I am 3 weeks out and I just want liquids! So much easier to handle. I hurt my tummy on chicken and vegetable strained and put through a blender. My nutritionist said I could take my time so right now I am up to one soft food meal per day and then I will make it two. Hang in there.

Thank you. It didn't even matter that you made to your goal weight either.

Bummer. I did the surgery to make my diabetes better.

Hi All. I had my surgery almost 3 weeks ago. I went off diabetes meds before surgery and I'm still off.

My b.s. is running from 87 to 160. I am wondering if any of you had these kind of numbers at 3 weeks out and then still had remission after more weight was lost.

I have had type 2 for 13 years. I was on metformin and victoza.

Thanks!

Hi All: I am writing in to complain that I am sick of this clear liquid diet finally. It has been almost 2 weeks - sf jello, sf Popsicles, broth, protein powder and water. Ugh. I am post op and it really didn't start bothering me until today. Not craving food but just being annoyed with only these to choose from LOL.

I see the surgeon on Friday and then I get to add smooth yogurt, and milk. Oh boy lol.

Anyone else get sick of this??

So sorry. I could never have done this surgery unless I worked with a therapist for many months on why I ate like I did and also what I could do to change my maladaptive behaviors.

Find a good therapist *****ally understands eating disorders - especially binge eating and even if you don't have a "disorder" like I do, they certainly would be able to help you I bet. You are worth it. Keep your chin up.

Hi All. I had my Gastric Bypass last Tuesday and everthing went very well. For those of you on a clear liquid diet after surgery, do think that sugar free popsicles and SF jello count as liquid lol?

Also, I'm off my diabetes meds but my numbers are in the 120 and 140s. If any of you have diabetes did you see a gradual decline to more normal BS readings? Thanks.

Thank you all so much I really appreciate it. I think I will leave my tablet at home and only have my cell phone for communication and maybe I'll login to talk to you guys.

I have a feeling that I won't really want to do very much reading or watching a movie or anything. The only way I would is if I was there for a long time. I'm thinking that I will be in the hospital overnight and maybe one more day I'm not really sure again thank you everyone.

Thanks - yes, about that small pillow. I went to our support group meeting Tuesday and don't you know the speaker was a post op nurse! Perfect timing. She showed us the pillow.

Topic: RE: Surgery probably cancelled

Hi All. So my surgery is scheduled for Tuesday next week. Last night I forgot to plug in my phone. When it was finally charged at 515 today I had a voicemail from the bariatric team coordinator. She said she needed to talk to me regarding my bloodwork.

I have mild stage 2 kidney disease. I also have Fatty liver disease. I saw my labs last week on my portal. I knew they weren't great but I am on the preop ketosis diet and they did them without me fasting and I didn't get a chance to hydrate.

These are the worst parts:

urea nitrogen/creatinine ratio, serum 31.8

urea nitrogen, blood 35

potassium, serum 5.3

erythrocyte (RBC) count 3.95

egfr 55

aspartate aminotransferase (SGOT), serum 41

Alkaline Phosphatase, Serum/Plasma 57

alanine aminotransferase (SGPT), serum 39

So I call back, they are of course gone for the day. I am afraid this surgeon won't do the surgery. What other reason could they have to call me 8 days after these labs were done. I can't stop blubbering.

Then I have to have stress test and a echo cardiogram tomorrow at 730. I also receive a call from the imaging people saying they don't have insurance approval. Of course they are closed too. I called the insurance company and they have no record at all for approval of a echo or stress test.

The cards are stacked against me and I am fearful. The RNY was my only hope for a healthier life. I am miserable.

Topic: RE: Did I just screw myself?

I'm on my pre op diet too. Surgery on the 23rd. When I drink the 2 protein shakes per day, 4 0z of lean meat, a cup of cooked veggies, a salad and lite Italian dressing I am staying in a state of ketosis. That means my body is not burning many carbs but is burning my stored fat as fuel.

I have eaten some sugar free pudding and sugar free jello. I think that as long as we strive to keep away from carbs and excess calories we should be good.

I don't think that you have ruined anything. Just think about fueling our bodies with our own fat in our liver and tummy and not with carbs.

We have one more week and then this phase will be over. We can do it!

Hi All. One week to go til surgery! I just need to pass my echo and stress test for my heart.

I had a lapband that was taken out 3 years ago. Now I am going in for the gastric bypass.

Did any of you have any problems with the switch from the lapband to the gastric bypass? I have been told by the surgeon that there may be adhesions/scar tissue that would make it impossible to do the gastric bypass.

Topic: RE: 7 years out need to re-address my issues

Hi there. I am pre op and have been in therapy for several years for anxiety and depression.

My primary care put me on Vyvanse for weight loss and I told my bariatric team this and that I have Binge Eating Disorder. I saw their psychiatrist for several months and started weekly therapy with a therapist who truly understands eating disordered behaviors.

For me it all went back to childhood with a mom who was emotionally unavailable and used food to comfort herself - she also hoarded sweets. Coming from this dysfunctional family I was overweight at 5 and then obese for many years - I am 54. With the help of my therapist by delving into the reasons that I developed these issues it has helped me tremendously to be more aware of my feelings and see that I use binge eating as a coping mechanism for any stress in my life.

Long story short, find someone who can help you get to the root of your eating issues. Finding someone who specializes in eating disorders/issues was a huge key for me. I have surgery on the 23rd and I now weight 198 at 5'4. I lost weight pre op due to the help of my therapist *****ally understands disordered eating.

Just a thought.
