My labs are normal (ish) but I have painful, nocturnal muscle cramps, a swollen tongue and I'm so tired even my shiny, new cpap isn't helping.

Anyone else still having issues with labs and malabsorbtion after several years post op?

I know that's what's going on, but no specialist in my area. White blood cells in the toilet for almost three years and the muscle cramps are unbearable, to the point of leaving bruises behind.

So, I did end up having my gallbladder out. It was necrotic and made me very sick before they figured out what was causing it.

Agreed, just worries me how much different our bodies seem to absorb it and how much more some of us like that feeling where as pre-op it wasn't there.

Thank you, lets just put it this way.... in the rehab I just got out of 5 of the 27 women there became alcoholic after RNY.  There has to be a correlation, crosss-addiction, whatever. But thank you again for your concern.

She said that every time she looks at me I am eating at my desk and it's distracting.... Really?  I wonder if she would have said that to me if I still was morbidly obese?  So now I am sitting here starving because we don't have a break room or get breaks and I refuse to eat at my desk again. Can't wait until time to go home so I can eat...

Not sure, just seems like that maybe before WLS I ate more food than I do now but certainly not the "crap" I eat now.  Not every day is as bad as yesterday but I certainly have them now.  I don't plan or spend nearly as much time on my meals as I did early out post op.  I do get a lot more exercise than I did pre op, so that is maybe why I don't gain back tons of weight.  I also developed alcohol addiction after my first year post op and that has been tough.  I seem to have swapped out vodka with junk.  I do still eat healthy things, I have had a protein shake this morning and a ff greek yogurt, but I have also had coffee and a pop tart.  Beats me!

Just keep doing what you are doing and remember it is all about choices.  I couldn't have ever imagined that I would eat this way, but I do.

Early out it is very hard to imagine every eating like you used to or gaining any weight back.  I can tell you, as I sit here typing and eating Hershey's kisses... that isn't always the case when you get further out.  I could NEVER imagined that I would eat the crap that i eat now when I was a year out. So keep that in mind and keep your goal in your eyesight.  It does get harder as you get further out and commitment is the only thing that will keep the weight off.  It won't be a tiny, grumpy pouch any more...  Here is what I have eaten today:  (warning, it's scary....)

PreB: coffee with half and half

B: click shake with protein powder and whipped cream

S: egg and cheese wrap and 8 donut holes

L: macaroni and cheese
S: two large chocolate chip cookies and a glass of skim milk

Not to mention two diet sodas and a handful of kisses.....

And the day is not over yet. I will probably fini**** off with a giant salad and a couple of cookies and another glass of milk.

Now at six months out I would have freaked if someone told me I would eat like that.  Heck, I didn't even eat this bad before surgery....

I had one last week.  I had to take half of the bowel prep the night before and the rest that morning (mine wasn't until 1pm) and no eating anything after noon the day before and clear liquids only.   I also had an EGD, boy our stomas and pouches are weird looking, they gave me pictures.  And by the way, I have diverticulitis so I am glad I had it done, been having intermittent belly pain for months and was worried.  Now I know..  Good luck

Cross my legs,

Hike 7 miles up and down cliffs.

Enjoy sex.

See and CLEAN all parts of my body.

Take the stairs without thinking about it.

Enjoy a meal without guilt or feeling like strangers are judging me.

There are so many things that I already take for granted and don't think about anymore.  It is just amazing!

Thanks Lora, I do feel out of sorts too.  But I have a lot of gas and gas pain along with non-stop burping that does not seem to be better or worse with diet.  No matter what I eat or don't eat it seems to have no rhyme or reason.

My doc called today to say that my test results show that I do indeed have gallstones. She said they may or may not be the reason I have had so much discomfort, pain, gas, etc. For those out there that have had RNY and gallstones, did you find that you had other symptoms that didn't seem to relate to what the doc thought you should have? I know we tend to be more gassy after surgery, but until recently I never struggled with the gas PAIN I have had and the diarrhead.

Did you have trouble with this with gallstones?  If so, did it improve once the gallstones were resolved (with or without surgery to remove the gallbladder as I understand that may not be necessary).

Topic: RE: Tummy pain sucks!

I had my abdominal ultrasound this morning and now after lunch I am in horrible pain again.  I sure hope they find out what is wrong, I can't take much more of this and nothing seems to help. I have tried the BRAT diet, not eating, eating what I want.  Cutting out sweets, dairy, chocolate, coffee, soda, you name it.  Nothing seems to matter it does what it wants when it wants.  But the pain, oh my... I can't miss any more work over this and I just don't know what to do.  I have tried GasX, pepto (which by the way has salycitates in it and we probably shouldn't have), pain medicine, excercise.  I am just beside myself.

Well doctors appointment tonight to talk about tummy issues,  Hopefully they can figure out something. I have been living on Pepto and Gas-X but this morning I realized that Pepto has salycitates in it and I wonder if we are supposed to have that (same ingredient as aspirin???).  Anyway, here's to fixing tummy troubles!

PreB: coffee (needed it to fend off migraine) with (GASP) real sugar.  I am fending off fake sweetner for awhile

B: 2 eggs over and a piece of toast

S: a pop tart (and boy did I pay for that!)

L: lasagna made with dreamfields pasta and lots of veggies, ground turkey, and lf cheeses

S: either FF greek yogurt or string cheese

D: ??? have the appointment so probably something quick like subway

LNS: a couple of homemade chocolate chip cookies and skim milk

See how much you can eat at four years out!?  Scary stuff and I didn't believe people when I was out the first few years, thought they were crazy!! LOL

Topic: RE: What are you eating today (Tuesday)?

Well not much really since I am struggling with the horrible gas pain and diarrhea again.  I don't have a doctor's appointment until Thursday night but I can't keep living this way.  Ruined my whole weekend away and I missed work yesterday because of it.  It really does just feel like horrible gas pain, but there isn't any rhyme or reason to it. I am living on gas-x and pepto and really limiting what I eat.  Today I have also taken gluten out of my diet along with milk, coffee, soda and chocolate...

PreB: water and pepto

B: FF Greek yogurt

S: cheese stick

L: some gluten free soup (and more pepto....)

Now: water, gingerale and cranberry juice

S: maybe another cheese stick

D: ?? Not sure, I think my friend is making pork loin for dinner so I will try some of that and whateve veggie they have

Well the most important part is that you aren't just ignoring it and you are doing something about it!  I too have let some weigh come back on and am ready to put a halt to it and try to get back on track.  Even if I don't lose what I've regained I want to stop gaining.  Best of luck, visit here often and get all the support you can get.

Six months ago I would have said no way!  Now that I am almost four years out and have allowed poor food choices back in my life I am gaining and at a staggering pace (almost 25 pounds in two months....) so yes, you can put weight back on even if you can't eat a giant plate of food or whole pizza at a sitting anymore.

Topic: RE: What are you eating today - TGIF!

Well, I got down to my lowest weight around Christmas, started a new job and have put on more than 20 pounds since. I have picked up terrible habits and it needs to stop!  So I am going away this weekend and will slowly de-carb myself from the junk and get back on track.  Spring will be here soon and then I will start walking again, I really want this 20+ pounds back off!

PreB: coffee

B: click shake, two egg whites and piece of toast

S: small yogurt w/homemade granola

L: slice of homemade turkey pot pie (lf gravy, and very little potato and crust)

S: shouldn't need one, but if I get hungry a 1/2 a cup of chili

D: top off two slices of pizza and a small garden salad

LNS: probably a few girl scout cookies (they are the devil!!!)

Will get some walking in later today and again in the morning.

For me there is about a week a month where I can eat everything in sight and do.  The rest of the month I reign it back in and take off the little I put on.... I have been around the same weight give or take 5 lbs. It's still a struggle, but I am not as good about making smart choices now like I was in the beginning.  But, I know I am going to want to be "bad" sometimes so exercise is a must.
