Topic: Just got Approval... what about letting work know???
I just got my approval letter and am wondering if I should go ahead and tell my principal now or wait until I have a surgery date. I know it would be good to let him know it's coming but don't want to tell him and not be able to say when it's going to be or how long I expect to be out. I've been saving days just in case it's a long stay, but I don't want to be away long... I don't like being away from my classes!

everything is more challenging during the breaks... too much time on my hands. I've done a realtively good job of making myself practice more during these times (electric bass) but it's still dangerous!
I'm needing to build a rather big site for my district over this winter break so I should do fine... plus I get to bill for the hours so I'll be making some good after-christmas money in case I don't get that iPod 20 that I asked Santa for!
I know it's gonna be quite a bit different after the surgery but why wait to start good habits or modify behaviors when I can start now... kind of... on good days... maybe...

I'm still pre-op... I try to keep it light. My sleep apnea still effects my afternoons and if i don't eat light then I get really drowsy during 6th and 7th period. we get 40 minutes... so it's a good social time!

Hi... I'm a teacher in So. California - I teach high school computer stuff... digital imaging, web publishing and an Office class.
I'm a husband with 3 wonderful kids - whew... life can get busy!
As far as the WLS stuff... I just recieved my approval letter from Kaiser and am now waiting to hear back from UCLA for meeting with the surgeon...
I just found the OH site and am learning tons and already have recieved lots of advise and supportive email from several members! Cool Beans!

I hope you didn't have any problem with your "judging" duties! I think I would have opted out! I can't see that anyone would have been upset, due to the cir****tances!
I had kids bringing me all kinds of Christmas candy! I said, "thank you" and took it to the teacher's lounge!

I usually do a protein drink for lunch! I also keep string cheese and "go-gurt" in my little refrigerator in my room. And, of course, PowerCrunch protein bars SAVE ME sometimes!! 
Sometimes I have the chunky soups in the little ready-to-heat-up containers. I have a microwave in my room. It's funny...our school district makes us pay $5 a month if we have refrigerators or microwaves in our room!! Do we REALLY use that much electricity???

I just found this board!! I think I'll check in more often! The California Board is always hopping with two to three pages of posts a day!! Now that the first semester is almost over, and my first show is DONE (I'm a High School Theatre teacher), maybe I'll have a few more minutes to check other boards!!
Teaching is also my second career...was an Administrative Assistant for 20-something years before I finished my degree and decided to get into teaching. This is my 11th year!

Hi Collette,
Welcome to the teaching board. It sounds like you are certainly stressed to the max. I know you said it was very stressful for teachers in your state and I think that's the same for most teachers across the country. But, I would have to say that I'm not near as stressed as some. I work in a small rural school with high test scores and much parental involvement.
I have only been teaching for two years. I was in advertising before I decided to teach. My stress was MUCH higher then, so was the pay. But, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Breaks are always a problem. I hate to say that becasue of my surgery I have to eat all the time because if I don't I'll lose tooooo much weight. I have to eat like a pig to stay at 110. I'm not setting a good example for my daughter whose overweight. But she likes her weight. She says I'm tooo skinny. We are like passing ships in the night a lot of the time because she works at a deli during dinner hours. So she is pretty much on her own.
What's it like in Arlington? Are you far from Sugar Land? That's were my son and exhubby are living now. He starts Garcia Middle School on Monday.
They send me pictures all the time and I'm jealous. Becasue it's frezzing and grey here in Detroit. It warm to hot and seems to be always sunny in the Houston area.
