Topic: Directing Christmas Carol
Well, after nearly a year and a while I'm getting back into theatre. I've been "roped" into directing the local children's theatre production of Christmas Carol. I'd love to talk to other directors!

Topic: RE: BACK ON STAGE!
Just dropped in. Congratulations. I'm a Christian performer/minister. I lead a drama outreach into prisons and my husband and I tour a monodrama and storytelling. Also teach and direct audio theatre. I've been on a whirlwind schedule this year. We'll be leaving to minister through drama and storytelling in Trinidad (West Indies) in about three weeks. I'm working on a project that may take us to China some time next year. I'm 13.5 months out from my surgery and have lost 136 pounds. I have between 20 and 40 to lose to reach my goal weight, but would be quite satisfied where I am. Enjoy your newfound freedom as you pursue your pasion.

Thanks for your post Kathleen and everyone else! Where I work we get discounted (a little) to these shows - so I am willing to give them a shot. Wicked is like the #1 show on Broadway - but sometimes they just don't click with you - I know that feeling!
They are going to be selling tickets for the Lion King in May 06 pretty soon and I am waiting for that day!
I just love watching live performances - especially musicals! So much emotion!
Has anyone seen Avenue Q? A friend of mine went when it first came to Broadway and loved it. I bought the CD and I LOVE it..it is like an R rated Sesame Street - you have to have a "taste" for it - but it makes me laugh - so I like it! They sing a song "It sucks to be me" --> but it is really about how a lot of times people think that - but you learn that others have different problems - and you don't really have it that bad"...we like it at work - it makes us feel like we have an excuse to whine about our jobs...it's fun!
Have a great weekend!
Nancy

Hi.
I must be weird - I saw Wicked about 10 days ago here in L.A. and I walked out at intermission - I hated it - thought the script was inane. The voices were good and the dancing was good, but the script and characters were way over the top.
I saw Hairspray here a few months ago and I loved it. I agree, it was way over the top, but I thought it was so much fun.
I am older and have been around and done theater for many years, so am probably jaded, but I was really disappointed in Wicked. Too bad as it is sold out here. Must be me.
Hope you really enjoy it.

Good for you!
I too am an old stage actress - last show I did was Lend Me a Tenor back in 1998 - One of my local theaters is doing it about now, but I am way too big to do my part - and it is very physical so it is beyond my capability. Breaks my heart.
When I got too big, I went into ushering, but finally got too big to even do that - I was house manager of a theater and the theater manager made a snide remark about my weight and making too much noise seating people - so I left. Now I am too big to even sit in the theater seats so have had to totally give up everything to do with theater for the time being.
I am hoping to have my surgery later this year, and when the weight goes away, I want to get back on stage as soon as I can.
Congratulations - you are a real incentive to me! Hope you have a wonderful run.
Kathleen

Topic: BACK ON STAGE!
I have enjoyed doing live theatre since I was very young. I have not done any shoes in a few years because of the weight. I have been cast in a show at The Abbeville Opera House in Abbeville SC in the summer season. I will be playing Prince Carpenter in FOXFIRE. I am looking forward to it. We start rehearsals this Sunday and will open on Aug. 5. Thank you Dr. Bour you are making life wonderful again!!!
