Hi Jamie, The potassium problem I can fully understand. My chemo eats up my potassium so I would have to have it given to me thru my med-port in my right shoulder. I have to have blood work done everyweek at the cancer center. It's been 8 weeks since I had to be given any, and that's a big change. The new chemo pills aren't eating up my potassium. I found drinking 1-2 cans of regular V8 Tomato Juice helped keep my potassium levels in normal range. Ask for the dissolvable potassium, and dissolve them in no sugar added grape juice, works wonders. yes getting potassium thru an IV is extrememly painful. Been there too, but getting it mixed with saline and not having it forced into your iv so fast is not painful. Remember 10cc is one hour if mixed properly with saline. I get mine done tomorrow and if it's low I can plan on being at the cancer center for at least 5 hours. It's vital to keep the potassium levels between 3.6-5, as it can cause heart damage. I spent the first 4 months after surgery in and out of the hospital and still had to until recently because my potassium would drop so fast. V8 juice is the only one that is high in Potassium. I wish you the best. Love Kathy

Okay. I think maybe I've been kind of posting too much as a nurse and not so much as a newby to WLS. So I will say this much and no more: Potassium should never be administered IV push. Period. Full stop. Even in a central line. Love Dennie

Janie, That does sound very painful. It's amazing the tricks our bodies can play on us from time to time. I'll pray for you as well . Please keep us posted. Kim
