Guess what happened when I returned to work...?
LOL! Severance? I wi****hink that is the equivelent of a 4 letter word in the non-for-profit sector. No, I received a nice little note saying I could pay for Cobra, and my employment will cease next Wednesday. I may be able to transfer to an assistant administrator positon (aka receptionist) but the pay is much lower and I'd only be doing that until I found something I wanted to do. On top of this, my car had to go into the shop today. UGH! No one told me Mondays could get this hellish!

Hi Alyssa, I am sorry to hear about your job ending. You'll be able to collect unemployment while you are looking for another job. Just remember things happen for a reason, God has a plan for you and the possibility of a better position. Trust him to show you where to go.
You're in my prayers. Kathy
Alyssa,
I hate to hear that. Perhaps you can get unemployment benefits temporarily?? Have you ever looked into working for TN state government?? There are lots of positions for that field... it is just a process and a half to go through. You can do a job search at www.tn.gov, click employment and go from there. It is all pretty explainatory. If you have any questions... let me know. I work for the state...though I really do not like my job, the state offers great benefits. Good luck!

Actually, yes, I've had an application with the state before. I'm going to send in one with the state and possibly metro as well. I can get unemployment. I'm also considering looking into working with the agency's supportive living program as a support staff that way I'll continue to get my benefits. If that's an option, I'd only be doing that until something better comes along.
That is good to hear you have a plan. You're thinking very positively!
I would be at my wits end. I've been on the hunt for a new position myself and haven't had much luck. I have a B.A. in History.... a lot of good it is doing me. I'm pretty frustrated...but they say good things come to those who wait.

I'm sorry this has happened to you! Are you a social worker?
It's harder to get on with metro, but that's because the salary and benefits are so much better, if you're looking at the public sector.
Good luck to you! I was laid off during my maternity leave many many years ago, so I know that feeling of being broadsided!
Love
