I'm SO glad I switched surgeons.
I had to switch because my insurance wouldn't pay for my original choice, Dr. Olsen at Centennial in Nashville. I chose to go with Dr. McGrath-Weaver in Memphis, and I am so glad I did!
No offense meant to folks who had Dr. Olsen as their surgeon, but I just wasn't very comfortable around him, once I had my consult with him. He didn't have a very positive attitude about the lap-band, and even made a comment about how people getting the band weren't as committed to losing weight as people who chose RNY. To be quite honest, his bedside manner sucked. Plus, he didn't have much experience with bands, only about 25 or so, according to OH. I was really quite relieved to learn that my insurance company wouldn't pay for him, because I was having some severe second thoughts about having him as my surgeon.
Dr. Weaver, on the other hand, is a wonderful woman. She has a lot more experience with banding, having performed over a hundred when she was doing her fellowship. I met her for the first time this past Wednesday, and I was very impressed with her. She went into all of the possible side effects of the band, without basically telling me that I wasn 't committed, like Dr. Olsen did. She really seemed to care about me and my success, which means a lot. I mean, bedside manner (or lack there-of) isn't a deal-breaker, but it helps a lot.
I am glad you found someone you like. This is a major surgery and you have to have a lot of follow up care so I have always told everyone that you do not want to settle with a surgeon or Drs office that you do not feel comfortable with. You really have to have a good relationship with your surgeon and his office. So, hopefully you have found that now. Everyone has different taste and that even includes Drs. I hope you are able to get through this process quickly and have surgery.

Leticia
Laurend, hello my name is Lee Lee and my surgeon is Dr Weaver and I haven't met her yet but her staff are great. She has taken on quite a few people that other doctors in the area have turned down or they haven't been treated very good, She doesn't seem to be worried about the almighty dollar like the rest of them are.I was turned down by another group there in Memphis because I was older than 65 and on medicare and I'm glad that I was. I see her on Aug 1st and then I will find out my surgery date. I haven't finished my 6 month diet yet. So good luck. You have quite a drive each time you go so be careful on the roads. Welcome to the Tennesse message board people here aren't as judgemental as other boards and there is a lot of love here so just keep posting here and it will leep out to you. Sending you lots of
, hugs &
to you. Lee Lee
