Hi,  Okay I have talked to my friends about this and i'm still baffled by something. The other week I had a wow moment. I took my new license picture and I looked so thin in the face, I looked sick, I'm so used to having a fat little face that this is just weird. Then,I noticed my wrist bones were showing and then I noticed that my collarbone is sticking out! Ahhh! I freaked out and was ready to go to the doctor. My friend on the phone told me it was normal but its just weird seeing my bones protruding. I feel sickly now instead of healthy. Meanwhile I am 6 months post op and i've only lost 70lbs as opposed to so many people who lose like almost 100 by this time and i'm only down 2 pants sizes so I have to ask... Is any of this normal?

Its normal to freak out when you start seeing your bones.  I liked it, along with others, when we could finally see collarbones!  And one day I was driving, I looked down while at a standstill in traffic and I was like, "Oh my God, look at my wrists...."  I could get my thumb and pinkie around it!  I liked it too. Until...  one day I could see every vein and it scared me.  I thought for the first time, "I've lost too much weight.  I'm scared."  Sometimes its that fear that makes me continue eating...  and maybe its a good fear that keeps us from getting anorexic or developing eating disorders or abnormal eating behaviors/habits...  cause at my sickest from gallbladder removal, and food (everything) I ate made me so sick, it was that fear of becoming too skinny that made me eat.  I hated the pain food caused, but I knew I had to eat to survive.  So at times its exciting, then at others, it can freak ya out. About your weight loss, each person is different.  Where you may start off slow, someone else might finish off slow...  and you will hit a plateau.  That's when you get your water bottle out, your protein products (shakes) and get busy trying to bust it.  But, the scales will lie to you and stay the same.  I suggest you retake your measurements.  That is the best indicator.  Good luck!

Hey! Congrats on your weight loss so far. 70 Pounds is great! You really can not compare yourself to others weight loss because you have to see what is normal for you. I think you started out weighing 250. The people who normally lose 100 pounds in the first 5-6 months are people who have more weight to lose. So, you can not compare. You are doing wonderful. You are 6 months out and weight 185 so you do not have much more weight to lose to get into a normal range. Weight loss will begin to slow down as you get closer to your goal. Like Melinda said, if you take your measurements, I am sure you will notice a big difference. And go shopping for new clothes. It will usually make you feel better to see how clothes will fit now - at least it did for me. As far as your bones showing - yep that is normal. It does not mean you are unhealthy. In fact, if you look at most women who are at a normal weight you can see their collerbones sticking out. I am sure you are just noticing all of the changes you are going through and it does become emotional. It is just something that you are going to have to adapt to and that may take you more time. Keep up the great work.

You had surgery the day before me and I have not BEEN able to lose that much weigght I am fighting to get this last 40lb off.... I think its great that you are doing so well,  but if you feel sick maybe you are not getting enough protein and vitamines in????   My dr says I am doing fine.  But I feel bad because I havent lost 70 and you feel bad because you have. I guess we are all different. Annrenee KnoxvilleRNY APRIL 24th 2007

One thing I thought that I would mention about only going down two sizes - the larger ones are spaced further apart. For instance, you will have to lose a lot more weight to go from a 26 to a 24 than you will to go from an 18 to a 16.

Funny how that works, isn't it?
