I didn't try stea****il I was 19 months out and even then I was scared of what might happen. To make it even worse, I was at a formal dinner given by the university president. We were served a very tender filet mignon cooked to perfection. I took very tiny bites and chewed VERY well. I was also glad I was near a door just in case I needed to make a speedy exit.

Everything went down very well and I have had filet 2 times since with no problems. Some foods are just going to take time. You are just now 6 months out. I was eating ground beef at 6 months but no other type of beef or pork. I still can't handle a pork chop or pork roast.

Steak is hard for me too but not red meat in general. I can eat hamburger meat without a problem. I do know someone who had this surgery and is not able to eat any red meat either and she is a couple of years out. So I think it is quite common. But, like you said, it is just part of the lifestyle change. Just one more thing you will have to cut out of your diet. There may be things that yo ucan tolerate more of than other people. Ground turkey is just as good as ground hamburger when you make it right. Time to experiment!

I have been the same wayand i had my surgery May 10, 2007. I can handle hamburger meat easily but nothing like a pot roast and absolutly no pork. Makes me sick every time. Steak did make me sick but hubby grilled one the other night and it was med rare, very tender. I cut it into very small bites and it actually worked. I have found these chicken nugets now that I eat. They are the Tyson Anytizers. I get the chedder bacon ones and they have 16 grams of protein per 4 nuggets. They taste like a chicken sandwich with bacon and cheese just without the bread. I am hooked on them now. The bacon in them is the only pork I can handle.   Brenda

I set myself a new goal. I can do it! I am going to do it!!!!

I've not had my surgery yet, but lately we've gotten so many different types of those tyson chicken nuggets. The price wasn't bad, and they are quick and easy, Brian likes them. its sounds as though even though you guys have been out of surg. for awhile, you still have problems with your beef and pork products. Do they just not go down or is it afterwards. Later into the nite? I just kinda like to have fore warn'n.  Thanks ya'll. HUGSBarb

I can eat ham, sausage, bacon and pulled pork with no problem. It's just the denser pork like pork chops or roast that just don't sit well. Like Shelia said, it's not usually too bad at first but about an hour or so later I just don't feel well at all. The first time I tried a bite of pork chop I reacted badly to it immediately. Now I prefer to try new foods at home for the first time to get some idea of how I will react. I also cannot tolerate tuna since surgery. I have tried it 3 times at various stages post-op and my body just will not accept it. I have finally decided that I must have eaten my quota of tuna with all of the diets I've been on in my life. Woo HOO, I never have to eat another bite of canned tuna!!
