Hey Melinda, glad to see the choice that you made. I love reading your postings and your web-site. I am not much for actually keeping up with my daily intake other than water/liquid. But I am starting today!!!!!!!!!! Look for my post later tonight. I do have a question for you and or others. Can one take in too much protien at once, either at a meal or as a snack? Also, if anyone else would like to contribute to my protein test feel free to bring me samples. Thanks so much to Freddie, Wendy, Paula, Wendy for the last ones that I got, I'm still trying them, so far I'm loving the cookies and cream the best, but I'm gonna try them all. Oh and Shelia, if you have any of the PB2 left..........hehe.....I would love a sample of it to really try. That little taste I got at Hickory Falls was just enough to make a woman mad...........LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Susan and I had this conversation just Saturday at the Obesity Walk.  If you are drinking a 42 g New Whey bullet, I do not see anything wrong with this.  There is no way for them to really tell if your body absorbs all of the 42 g of protein as our bodies are all so different in weight, height, etc.  And as gastric patients, we surely do not absorb all that we ingest.  So, if your  body needs 30 g, it will let the remainder out and hold those 30.  The danger comes when a person takes a New Whey bullet (42 g) and adds a scoop of protein powder that has 23 g and thinks, "I've just got 65 proteins in so I am done for the day."  They really should space out the bullet and the protein powder so that they are getting it in intervals...  this allows the body to process it.  My fear is that new postops are afraid to get in protein and count it down to the 60 grams every day and will not take in more than that... or they stop at 80.  Bariatric Eating's website can give you more information as they attend the AMSBS workshops and have trained bariatric nurses there, but basically the information being given from successful long term postops who are medical professionals state that 80 g at least, not 60, should be the goal.  I average 100-150, but 89 on a bad day. I remember right after my stricture was opened (2 1/2 mos after surgery)...  I ate all day long to get my 60 g in.  I counted it all up and it was a measley 37 grams!  I was in tears and desperate.  My protein level was "in the basement" as Dr. Houston called it.  I was being fed off a tube for 6 days and severely malnutritioned.  Of course that was not my fault, because of the stricture, but that is the result when a person does not get their required protein and vitamins/supplements, whether it be from food or shakes/drinks/bars.etc.  I'm rambling but I hope this helps.  If not, let me know and we can pull in some other info.  Let me also add:  some postops are able to get in all their protein from food.  That is the goal.  That's wonderful...  but the truth of the matter is, not all can.

Thanks Mel, that totally helps me. I can get most of mine from the meats that I eat, but sometimes I would just rather drink than actually eat. DH sometimes fussy at me because I don't eat. Sometimes I'm just not hungry and would just rather drink to get it in than try to eat. I'm thinking he will change his mind when he has his WLS in July. Thanks for the info. Cheryl

Juanita Your post about the egg salad inspired me this morning... so I cut up my boiled egg and added 1 packet of mayo and 1/2 packet of mustard.  YUMMY my lips were smacking...  it really hit the spot... sometimes the boiled eggs sit hard on my tummy cause they are so dry...

Ok, What is a Supreme Protein Bar that I keep hearing about and where can I try one? Are you holding out? I had to go to the nutritionist this morning. Why they make a pregnant woman go to a nutritionist has to be for torture reasons! The last thing I want to hear is someone telling me what I should or shouldn't be eating. Well, actually I could use all the advise I can get but just not from someone who looks like she has never eaten a freakin cookie before in her life, never been overweight, or pregnant. Sorry -  Hormones! I really do like my nutritionist and I will be happy to go back to her after I have the baby. But it went ok. She said I eat better than a lot of pregnant women so that made my day.  Here is my Monday stats: Breakfast (6:45am) - SW Egg Beaters (between 1/2 and 3/4 cup) with FF cheese and salsa and 1 whole wheat toast with SF preserves Snack (9:30) - banana Lunch (11:00) - South Beach Diet Ckn and Veggie Pizza and a side of grapes Snack (2:30) - Yoplait Yogurt Snack (4:30) - Power Crunch Bar Dinner (7:00) - about 1/2 cup of beef chili with FF cheese and a small baked potato with all the toppings (butter, cheese, sour cream and Bacos) Snack (9:00) - no sugar added twinkie Vitamins - multi/prenatal and 2 calciums w/vitamin D Fluid intake - 70 oz.

Misty You are too funny!  I hear ya on the hormones girl! Only mine is not from pregnancy.  OH LORD at least I hope not! lol The Supreme Protein bars are in an orange wrapper that look just like the new Reese's crunchy candy bars.  I know this only because I am always scanning the checkout candy aisle as I stand there, and I spotted it like, "OMG! they have protein bars?!"  Much to my dismay... the answer is NO, Walmart does not sell this kind of wonderful piece of heaven. I got it at GNC, and Vitamin Shoppe.  They are about 3.39 a bar.  You have to eat them in at least 4 intervals.  Be cautious. The sugar alcohols will cause an "episode" of gastric pain.  Trust me.  I did this on half a bar... I had it for breakfast one morning.  Now I keep it in my purse, and eat a bite at a time...  the other day I had several eating off of it: Susan, Shelia, Beth, Mike and myself They will tell you that its great...
