Ok I went for the psych exam. I thought it was going to be an exam where I  have mulitple choice answers and stuff like that. Well it turned out that it was just the psych nurse asking a lot of questions like a detailed health history.  There were about three questions that were psych questions--- too obvious like Have you ever binged before=== and can you tell me how you feel today==have you ever had a drug problem Any one else had experience with this kind of psych exam???

Hi Janice!  My psych eval was done by Dr. Karen Starr and it was great.  We talked, she asked questions and we went from there.  It was really like talking to a friend.  As I was talking, she was typing.  As soon as the interview was finished, she told me I was a great candidate for WLS .  she even had the report faxed to my Dr. that afternoon. Now my wife's eval was a completely different story.  She roughly had a 300 question questionnaire to answer.  Then all the answers were evaluated and was told to wait for the results. I'm sure everything went fine and you will be on your way to having surgery very quickly!

Thanks Scott! :) I am glad you had the same great experience as we did. (my hubby and I went together) Karen also did ours. I was worried because I "psyched" myself up for more than just a talk. I was expecting something like what you said your wife had to take --300 to 400 questions. (did she go to Vandy?) Karen seemed very qualified and so I guess she did the evaluation at the same time as asking the questions. She sent ours over to the office via computer file. Im glad now that it wasnt the 300-400 questions and we didnt have to wait!

My wife had hers done with the Evelyn Frye Center at Centennial.  that is who our Doc suggested.  I just didn't have the $300 dollars!  My sister had her surgery at Vandy.  she is the one who suggested Karen!

Hey Janice, I see we have the same surgeon, Dr. William O. Richards. I really like him and have confidence in him and Vandy. I live in north Alabama, so I took care of a lot of the pre-op items here, including my psych exam.  Went to Dr. Preston, who does these for local Docs. It was a 2 part deal - first an hour talk with Dr. Preston whi*****luded discussion about my past weight and health history, previous diets and results, what I could expect following WLS, etc.  Then I had to go back a couple of days later for the second phase, a two-part written exam consisting of about 600 questions which covered all sorts of things - Have you EVER felt depressed, have you ever taken illegal drugs, do you love your mother, etc.  It then took them 3 days to score the test and evaluate my answers and psyche.   It was a lot more than I had expected it to be, to say the least.

I too had the 300 questions followed by an hour long visit with the psych. I actually enjoyed the visit with the psych, it was like talking with a friend who knows me very well.
