How Do You Celebrate Your Birthday After WLS?

My birthday is Sunday, April 27th and I want a little piece of cake. I will not ask my hubby to take me out to dinner but I don't know what to do without cake and food. lol This is really sad because I don't know how to celebrate without food. Well my hubby and daughter has to work anyway so it will just be me and my son and hubby won't get paid until next Wed. so I guess it is good not to have any expectations.

So is there any sweet stuff that I can put 41 candles on? lol

There are so many things out there to try, check out Scott's blog and Melinda's web site. If you can't decide, what to have, just have a good ole protein shake and go by yourself something nice to wear or do something just for you. I think I posted before, you can come Friday and we all can celebrate, it will be a blast. I would direct you to Scott's blog before mine!  I am Betty Crocker's lazy daughter...  so I surely would not be much help in that category!  Last year I made a sugar free chocolate cake that I found on Bariatric Eating...  it did'nt have icing but I did use whip cream and strawberries in its place.  It was really good.  If you want, I can find you the recipe... but now a nice piece of sugar free cheesecake might sound good, which Scott has  a recipe for!  that mocha cheesecake, which I think he still owes me a piece.

You might have to stick with some chocolate or cheesecake pudding with Sugar Free cool whip. I love the cheesecake pudding with cool whip. And I know you are only a couple of months post-op but don't feel restricted. You don't want to think about your birthday as a bad thing because you feel restricted and can't do anything. Go and enjoy your birthday. If you want to go to dinner, make hubby take you (when he isn't working of course). But go somewhere that has something on the menu for you. You can always get a baked piece of chicken anywhere and have them add cheese or whatever you like that you are tolerating right now and/or you can get soup or whatever else. Or you can do what most of us did at that stage and eat off the hubbys plate. It will be nice to just be out and about on a date night with your hubby even if it isn't actually on your birthday you can celebrate it later. If not that, then have a nice dinner at home and go shopping for a new outfit or  go to a movie or whatever. Enjoy your day. And Happy early Birthday!

Food is such a tradition...........So, don't not treat yourself or you might feel too deprived. I personally go get a box of sugar free oreos on my birthday because they are the only one's without hydrogenated oils, but....I don't get them until right before my girls are home....that way I share and the box gets gone quickly. Other than that I go for a hike or take a drive to somewhere I've been wanting to go and sometimes I go to a new restuarant with friends that I am comfortable with. We each order something we've never had and give each other a smidge too! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Beth B. in Chattanooga

Happy Birthday!!!!! Search the Internet, that's my suggestion.  I made a sugar free cake for my father-in-laws birthday, and now he request it all the time!  In  fact, the last time we made it, we did cupcakes! Here is the link: Died and gone to heaven cup cakes! Hope you enjoy! I ask that you remember one thing.  If you notice the name of the food blog is: Food for thought and moderation too!  So, keep in mind where you are in this journey, and this should be a treat that is used sparingly!   Just my 2 cents!

My birthday is Saturday.    I want to celebrate as well.  This is what I have planned to do know that I am on the Loser's Bench!! If it doesn't rain, My husband and I are going on a picnic to the park where we had our first date.  I will pack a lunch that I can eat as well as him, SF pudding or SF chocolate for dessert, then a walk. Celebrate and exercise all in one afternoon. Hope you find a way to celebrate as well,  Happy Birthday fellow Taurus Sherry

Here's what I did for my birthdays...I know that the birthdays aren't about the cake and the presents (although I will accept those year round).  My first birthday post wls was in February 2007 and I was a month after surgery.  I was still on the pureed/soft food stage, so how I celebrated was by spending time with family and friends and enjoyed a FABULOUS day at the Frist Center seeing an exhibit by some of my favorite artists.   This year I celebrated by a family dinner,  but I knew what I could have and measured it out.  For desert...I had my sugar free jello pudding and stuck a candle in it.  Sounds weird, but that's me.  I figured if I can't have cake I will blow out a candle one way or another. Basically my suggestion, don't focus on the candles or the cake, just celebrate life.  Do something special that you've always wanted to do.  By the way, another thing I did, to get the birthday feel...I bought some Philosophy birthday cake body wash...if I can't eat it, I'll bathe in it!
