RNY Resturant Card - Resturants????

Hello all! I never posted here before, i usually post in the April forum. I live here in hampton roads and after my surgery on 4/30 my doctor gave me a card to kep in my wallet for when i go out to eat with my family, the card states i has gastric bypas surgery and please allow me to order off the kids menu. Has anyone used their card in virginia yet? I was wondering what resturants will let us use these cards? Thanks for any help....

Hi there!  Welcome to the VA boards! :-)  I have a card as well, I've never had to use it. Most of the time the kids menus are full of fried foods that I just don't want or I order a full meal and take home leftovers. Another trick is to order something with someone in your party and share, maybe add a salad.   Best!

I have used mine at buffets but haven't really tried at other restaurants.  It is just easier for me to share with someone or have leftovers.  :) Courtnehy

I too was given one after my sugery . However, I do not use it . I feel that I had this surgery and why should I be given any special privilages?  The restraunts are there to make money and serve people to eat . And honestly , I would never order from the childs menu . When you get a chance , take a good long look at the food there .. Not really the stuff we need to be putting in our small new stomachs .... My suggestion has always been , if you are eating out .. always try to share .. or ask right up front for a box to go . When you get your food , put what you are not going to eat in the box . This way you are not tempted to overeat . So many tricks to this stuff huh .. ??  If you can find a place that serves healthy food on the childs menu .. by all means try to use it if that is your preference ... but for me .. I threw mine away the same day I got it ..  And by the way .. Congrats on your surgery date .. Congrats on having your surgery, that's great. I've used my card when I went to Golden Corral once, I didn't want to go there, but it was for a party, so at least I didn't have to pay full price when I barely ate anything. Outback is really great, they let me order off the kids menu [I either get the grilled chicken or a jr. filet with a side of green beans!!!!] I love it. They've never asked to see my card. Like some of the others have said, there isn't a lot of good things to eat off of kids menus cause its mostly fried, but when you can find some grilled things, go for it. I'm a lot further out so I tend to order a full meal now, pick, and then take it home. Or I'll share a steak/chicken/fish dinner with someone. Welcome to the boards!
