I need your help and advice befor Fri Please

Those of you who know me know Ive had soem back issues and a left leg issue for some time, the leg started back in 2004 when I had breast reduction surgery I know I had my breast done right lol well the leg started with pain and swelling and a burning up in the side of the thigh. Well it came and went and it was down to the knew w/ stabbing pains at times and would go numb the whole thing. I complained to no avail. Then after gastric bypass it really worsened. They all wanted to blame it on my BACK so the x-rayed MRI's etc sent me to the pain clinic for months Ive been on meds on/off for what seems forever. Well now since this last surgery 2 weeks ago almost those meds got a little out of whack due to the fact I was on the percocet and vicoden well I have had NO I mean NONE back pain in 2 weeks and my leg has gave me a terriable fit w/ pain burning numbness stabbing pain hurts when I walk sit  sleep you name it. Now I dont get it the pain meds have killed all these other pains but not the leg. Well I tryied to get in touch w/ the Dr @ the pain clinic to no avail so I called my PCP today to start over w/ him my appointment is w/ him Fri. And Im going to request leg xrays what do you all think? They have did all this stuff to the back. But NOTHING has been viewed of this leg. And I feel there is more going on than nerve damage that they say is going on??? Please any suggestions or has anyone had these problems????? Im just tires of taking meds. if there not going to take care of the problem or there are other  measures that can be done.  

I hope you get to feeling better and find out what is going on.  I have a similiar type of pain numbness of the outside of my right thigh. It can also itch like the dickens and get no relief when I scratch, since the sensation is down below the skin.  I have been to a lot of doctors and bascially they find nothing.  Really makes me crazy because I know it isn't all in my head.  Mine showed up shortly after an abdominal hernia repair about 4 years ago.

It sounds like nerve pain to me. I have cervical spinal stenosis...a fancy name for the openings in the bone wherre the nerve goes through is almost closed up.  I quit taking painkillers years ago. Long story. But nothing helped the burning, tingling, numbing pain.  I can't help you but wanted to wish you the best with the PCP. He will need to start with an Xray,then MRI, physical therapy. Ive had months of physical therapy and it helped when in the warm water pool. So I really dont know if it is muscle and I cant imagine nerve lasting all this time I know Im tired of it lol and hope they soon fix it, they have me on Neurotin an topamax now and I call it homopathic medicine.

I have had numbness in my right thigh for about two years. I was told by the doc that it was likely caused by weight gain - an important nerve that runs along that area. I had an MRI of my back to insure there was not back problems that were causing the numbness. Since WLS I still have the numbness and was told I would likely have it forever now - even after losing 80 lbs. so far. It is discouraging but I suppose better than it would have been had I not lost the weight.

The funny thing (not funny ) never had a bit a problem w/ it until after the first surgery and yes they tried to blame on the rapid weightloss at first cause I had lasot like 74 pounds in like 3 months they tried to say my fat protected these nerves I just cant believe that then after each surgery being on that table it has worsened and now good lord Im in misery the pain in my lef has been worse than my incision its crazy.

Maybe have them check the arteries in your groin.  My dad had problems with pain & numbness in his legs and it was a clog in that artery.  Definitely keep pushing til you find an answer.

Hi Melinda,  I think that it is a good idea to ask your PCP to look into getting you an x-rays or MRI on your leg. You should follow your instincs. It is so weird, but I too have been having pain in my right thigh for some time now. I have an appointment with my PCP in a few weeks. I will have a list of things to talk to her about..  Give me a call.....We are always playing phone tag....oh well, I am off today and tomorrow. (thank God, I have been at work for 7 days now!!!!)
