Protein Drinks = Constipation? (May be TMI)

Ok...well, I do have possible Crohn's Disease and I am constipation-predominant (go figure), but since I've been on the protein-shake pre-op diet (today is day 7), I have had a very difficult time having a BM. Even though, I am taking Metamucil and Benefiber! I am also drinking tons of water between shakes.  Today, it's at the point where swallowing anything causes stomach cramps and naseua. I can never spell the word naseau (or whatever!) You guys know what I mean. Anyway, I got some Correctol (mild stimulant laxative) and Colace (stool softener). Since I've been to like 6 gastroenterologists and NONE of them recommend the use of stimulants, I plan to do this just to get things going and then go back to natural fiber supplementation (citrucel, benefiber, etc.) and possibly stay on the Colace.  I am hoping I get some relief today. It's miserable. I am all bloated and crampy and I haven't lost any weight in two days on the pre-op diet, which doesn't seem right to me. I'm probably full of sh*t. LOL. Hmmm, Marcia...I guess this goes to show we are all different, eh?

35 pounds lost on my own. 8 pounds on the pre-op diet. 87 since surgery.

Melissa, you are so right about how everyone is so different! It seems that even the same person is different from day to day!  I was so glad that my diarrhea stopped, but now I am a little constipated.    Oh well, I'm sure it will all balance out one day.  Glad that you are feeling better.  Keep up the good work with the liquids...I was down 13 pounds before surgery (no cheating, though)!

I have possible colitus/chrohns too, but the docs call it IBS because I wouldn't go have the Colonoscopy.. they wanted to do it in a clinic, and not in a hospital, I wouldn't go for that! I was 280 and my BP was HIGH, I didn't want to die or have complications and not be in a hospital. The only poop I did after surgery was the food I had eaten before surgery.. after that I didn't go for 3 weeks, and that's eating cottage cheese, you put in liquids, you get liquids out.... lol, I started "going" again recently, but now it's almost like diahrrhea again.. ohh well -Dawnyel Hang in there hun, it'll get better!!
